Sinne Eeg: We've Just Begun

Read "We've Just Begun" reviewed by Nicholas F. Mondello

Nelson Riddle said his arrangement protocol always brought into play the strengths, weaknesses and performance nuances of the singer. Pairing the vocalist with the arranged ensemble where duo becomes uno was his forte. And when a singer has the talent to mesh seamlessly into the arrangement both before and during the performance, those are the recordings that stand out from the pack. This one certainly does. With We've Just Begun, Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg is not only accompanied ...

Sinne Eeg: We've Just Begun

Read "We've Just Begun" reviewed by Jack Bowers

Any vocalist who can summon the world-class Danish Radio Big Band to serve as a backup group must have something special to offer. Sinne Eeg, whose lustrous voice uplifts and illuminates her ninth album, We've Just Begun, has all of that and more. Eeg, as it turns out, is a shining star in her native Denmark--and if she weren't, she certainly should be. Singing mostly in English, Eeg displays a charming voice that is strong and clear and a style ...

Sinne Eeg: Dreams

Read "Dreams" reviewed by Jerome Wilson

Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg has a mature, pliable voice that shows traces of singers like Peggy Lee and Sheila Jordan in its contours and sound. She is a long-established presence in her home country but Dreams is only her second album to be released in America. For the occasion she has put together a solid cast of veteran American musicians in guitarist Larry Koonse, bassist Scott Colley and drummer Joey Baron along with her countryman, pianist Jacob Christoffersen.

Cheryl Bentyne Rearrangements of Shadows: The Music of Stephen Sondheim Artist Share Records 2017 Sometimes, a gathering of our better angels happens, resulting in an exceptional event. In the present case, these better angels are: post-bop jazz, jazz arrangement, Stephen Sondheim and the irrepressible Cheryl Bentyne. All of these elements are present and all in particularly fine form. The post-bop jazz part of this is a chronic bee- in-my-bonnet regarding this poorly-defined musical genre. Post ...

Vocalist Sinne Eeg at Chris’ Jazz Cafe

Read "Vocalist Sinne Eeg at Chris’ Jazz Cafe" reviewed by Victor L. Schermer

Sinne Eeg Trio Chris' Jazz Cafe Philadelphia, PA March 23, 2016 Sincerity, authenticity, and fidelity to tradition are qualities seriously lacking in what's left of jazz in America today. Computers, unbridled capitalistic exploitation, and a massive field of competing talent have led too many musicians to seek audiences through entertainment, egotism, mindless displays of virtuosity, and clever uses of ideas rather than straightforward self-expression of emotions and meaningful musical statements. Sadly, this is more ...

Sinne Eeg & Thomas Fonnesbæk: Eeg-Fonnesbæk

Read "Eeg-Fonnesbæk" reviewed by Dan Bilawsky

Danish vocalist Sinne Eeg is basically an unknown to American jazz listeners, but she's considered a vocal treasure on the other side of the pond. Three of her seven previous albums--Waiting For Dawn (Cope Records, 2007), Don't Be So Blue (Red Dot Music/EMI, 2010), and Face The Music (Stunt Records/Sundance Music, 2014)--have taken home Danish Music Awards, she was the recipient of the 2014 Ben Webster Prize, and she was awarded the Prix du Jazz Vocal by the French Académie ...
