When Eric Boeren assembles a cast of musicians to play the music of Duke Ellington and Billy Strayhorn you know it won't be your father's Ellington. Well, unless your father is very, very hip. You probably already expect this, knowing Boeren has been a mainstay of the new Dutch swing for decades. With his All Ellington tentet, he relies on a cast of skilled improvisers to enliven music written and recorded fifty, sixty, seventy and even eighty years ago.

When Eric Boeren's 4tet isn't playing the music of Ornette Coleman, they are playing the music of Ornette Coleman. That is to say, with a Dutch swing.

The leader and cornetist began playing covers in the early 1990s, releasing several quartet recordings of Coleman's music with Cross Breeding (BVHaast, 1997), Joy Of A Toy (BVHaast, 2001), and Soft Nose (BVHaast, 2001).

Tumultuosa: non saprei come altro definire la musica contenuta in questa terza uscita del catalogo Evil Rabbit. Musica che impegna e non concede nulla, brevi interludi minimali alternati a estenuanti divagazioni timbriche, stridenti derive rumoristiche opposte a concitati assalti frontali, svolazzi paranoici e inquietanti delicatamente sostenuti da trame evanescenti e dal sapore cameristico.
