Sulle spiagge dell'elettronica da ballo, le mode si abbattono come onde spumeggianti, che si lasciano cavalcare, perforare da tuffi spensierati, che sommergono fino alle caviglie i piedi danzanti, tanto che sembra impossibile non essere immersi in altro che quel fluido magico.

Poi, come accade a tutte le "waves" che si rispettino, si ritirano, lasciando sulla battigia qualche detrito di troppo. Uno sguardo rapido al recente passato renderà certo l'idea: trip-hop, breakbeat, nujazz, brazilectro, microhouse [aggiungere altre definizioni a piacere!] con la stessa rapidità con cui hanno imposto lo propria centralità in un mercato contraddittorio come questo, si sono ripiegate su se stesse.

Contraddittorio specie perché, in particolare per il pubblico non specializzato, è spesso assai più gradito danzare sulle note consunte di Gloria Gaynor che non su quelle dei più arditi alchimisti electroclash. Se proviamo però a spostare il fuoco del discorso sul puro piacere danzereccio, anche nell'ambito lounge continuano a esserci dei piccoli-grandi gioielli e uno di questi porta certamente la firma del duo londinese di djs formato da Ian Cooper e Frank Bates, meglio noti come G15.

Il "segreto" della loro musica - e in particolare quella di An Evening With G15 And The Monaco 808 Orchestra, la loro seconda fatica dopo il debutto di cinque anni fa - sta nel rifuggire gli stereotipi confortevoli del genere, preferendo invece un'esplorazione spregiudicata delle possibilità di assemblaggio sonoro. A questo affiancate un lavoro accuratissimo sui beats più fat e irresistibili che vi possano passare per le gambe e il gioco è fatto!

Nel laboratorio del duo le suture diventano arte: boogaloo e house si fondono nel caramello di "Que Pasa", la voce di Pam Grier si avvolge attorno alla pulsazione killer di "99 Years" e non vi esce più dalle orecchie, frammenti di jingles e ammiccamenti pop, un pinzimonio di tastiere e organi vintage, esotismi cinematici, la doverosa devozione ai compositori italiani di colonne sonore, il soul "jackson5iano" della preziosa "Moonstomping", per un disco che sembra coniugare la solidità di FatBoySlim con i toni retro di Frank Popp e che spingerebbe al ballo anche i più indolenti.

Un'isola felicissima tra le "onde", da non lasciarsi sfuggire [il sito dell'etichetta sopperisce all'attuale mancanza di una distribuzione nel nostro paese]!
