pianoAlbum Description
A full length straight-ahead jazz album featuring John Swana. The music harks back to Miles Davis’ first great quintet. John Swana, veteran Philadelphia trumpeter, guest appears on valve trombone. Vince Tampio (M.Mus.) is a professional trumpeter, arranger, and composer based in Philadelphia, PA. The Nook is Vince Tampio’s fifth solo release; his first to use exclusively acoustic instruments. The album features five pieces composed by Tampio. “The Nook” (co-written with Ben Basile) is a raucous blues named for the spandrel at Tattooed Mom Bar, Philadelphia, PA. John Swana guests on “Two Dollar Breakfast Special,” named for a menu item at the Main Street Bistro, New Paltz, NY. Jazz standard “Dear Old Stockholm” is re-arranged to interpolate a number of other jazz standards. All tracks were recorded live at Elm Street Studios, Conshohocken, PA.
