Album Description

In an age of digital perfection and isolated production, we are about to undertake a rare event. The Eric Van Aro Quartet are not merely releasing an album; we are resurrecting a ghost. The Album is a profound journey back to the source. Eric Van Aro grew up in the old way, surrounded by the warm hiss of tape machines and the sacred ritual of the live take. While a celebrated career has seen him navigate the vast oceans of jazz, the fiery core of rock, the vibrant pulse of Latin rhythms, and the infinite landscapes of electronic music, he has always been pulled by a deeper current.

That current leads him home.

Now, in his most personal and audacious project to date, Van Aro sheds the modern studio entirely. Recorded in a single room, on vintage equipment, there are no overdubs, no click tracks, no digital safety nets. This is music, laid bare.

The repertoire is not a collection of new compositions, but a sonic autobiography. Throughout his life, Van Aro has privately catalogued songs he calls **“waky”** — a unique descriptor for pieces that feel timeless, slightly warped by memory, rich with the patina of a life lived. These are the forgotten B-sides of experience: haunting melodies caught on a late-night radio, standards reinterpreted through a fractured lens, original tunes that never quite fit a genre but never left the soul.

Here, these “waky” gems—from jaunty jazz numbers to melancholic rock ballads, all filtered through his fabulous quartet’s singular vision—are captured in a continuous, unflinching performance. It is not a rejection of an eclectic past, but its ultimate distillation.

This album  is Eric Van Aro going back to the root of what made him want to sing in the first place: the terrifying and glorious act of creating something beautiful, together, in real time.
