Umberto Odone

Born in Treviglio (Italy) the 5-5-1993, Umberto Odone starts to play drums at 6 years old, playing pop, rock and funk styles in the following years and eventually transitioning into jazz. In 2011, at 18 years old, he was the first Italian drummer to get the Scuderie Capitani Drum Academy Diploma with the score of 30/30 cum laude, which marked the beginning of his professional career in music and allowed him to teach drums academically, both in music schools and privately.

In 2013 he was awarded the Batteria Maxxima Diploma in the Accademia del Suono in Milano, studying with the great jazz drummer Maxx Furian (Randy Brecker, Mike Mainieri, ...).

In 2016 he obtained his Bachelor Diploma in Jazz Drums with the score of 110/110 in the city of Brescia (Italy), where he had the opportunity to share the stage with Giovanni Falzone (Francesco Bearzatti, Massimo Colombo, ...), Fausto Beccalossi (Al di Meola, ...), Giulio Corini (Enrico Rava, John Abercrombie, ...), Stefano D’Anna (Ben Monder, Larry Grenadier, …), Carlo Morena (Kenny Wheeler, Paolo Fresu, …), Tino Tracanna ( Franco D’ Andrea, Dave Liebman, …) and many more.

He moved to the Maastricht (the Netherlands) in 2017, where he commenced an Erasmus education abroad at Conservatorium Maastricht where he played live concerts with WDR Big Band trumpeter Rob Bruynen and he recorded music with the great Belgian trumpet player Carlo Nardozza.

In summer 2018 he was the drummer of the National Italian Orchestra of Italian Conservatories, where he had the opportunity to share the stage with John Surman (Dave Holland , Jack Dejohnette, …) and play in Tel Aviv (Israel) for the Italian Embassy (among many other performances).

He moved to Belgium in september 2018, where he attended the Master program at the Koninklijk Conservatorium of Brussels. In the period of his two year master studies, he has played in the So What’s Next Festival 2019 in Eindhoven (the Netherlands) with his project Supernova and he also competed in the finals of the professional category of the Maastricht Jazz Awards 2019 with South African bassist Ildo Nandja (John Funkhouser, …).

In june 2020 he received his Master Diploma in Jazz Drums, obtained Cum Laude, studying with the highly regarded drummer Stephane Galland (Joe Zawinul,Tigran Hamasyan, Ibrahim Maalouf, ...).

In july 2021 he played at Dinant Jazz Festival,in the young talents competition. Umberto has played with: Fausto Beccalossi (Al di Meola), Rob Bruynen (WDR Big Band), Giulio Corini (Enrico Rava, John Abercrombie, ...), Stefano D’Anna (Ben Monder, Larry Grenadier, …), Giovanni Falzone (Francesco Bearzatti, Massimo Colombo, …), Carlo Morena (Kenny Wheeler, Paolo Fresu, …), Tino Tracanna ( Franco D’ Andrea, Dave Liebman, …), John Surman (Dave Holland , Jack Dejohnette, …).
