Album Description
Our Door Mario Franco Trio Hot Clube de Portugal, Praça da Alegria nº39, is the place where I first met Sérgio and André, and also where both club and school were, at that time, functioning together. Between the three of us a strong friendship and musical empathy gradually developed, which lasts until today, and which, at the time, led us to create the Art Jazz Trio. We used to get together invariably at the same places: either at each others’ houses, or at close friends’, or at the Hot Club, our second home. Our living-rooms became improvised studios, where, with other musicians, we would rehearse, talk, and listen to the same records over and over again. That was alot of music our mothers heard, with their houses full of instruments all over the place...! Musically we continue doing what we always enjoyed doing most: simply playing or reharmonizing standards, adding original segments, and playing our own compositions; searching for a common sound, the Trio’s sound, where at the same time each musician’s individual work with his own instrument can be heard, and where silence and sound are claiming their own space. “The spirit that united us yesterday is the same that unites us today; it remains intact.” Mário Franco I dedicate this record to some of the people who were, in different ways, at the origin of this Trio: Susana, José Castro, Bruno de Almeida, Paulo Pereira, Paulo Jorge Ferreira, Lino das Neves, Manuel Guerreiro, Algarve, Fernando Flores, David Gausden, John Abercrombie, Paula e Miguel Azguime, Tommy Halferty, Fathers, Bernardo Sasseti, Mothers, Mário Laginha and Andy Shepard...
