Album Description
Hydrophilia is a project where Cort Lunde, through music, investigates how people, nature and technology can coexist in harmony. The album revolves around water. Side A is a musical interpretation of the macro-algae Bladderwrack, and features a classical woodwind trio.. For this composition, Cort Lunde has used field recordings from the North Sea and the sound of oyster shells to create the beat and sound. Live percussion has also been recorded and actress Charlotte Fich has contributed with a poem and spoken words. This piece was a commission from Copenhagen Harbor Parade, and scenography was created for the performance by the art collective ArtSay. Side B is a commission from the National Gallry of Denmark. In this piece Cort Lunde prepared an interpretation of the modernist painting "Faun and nymph" by Edvard Weie, where the two mythological creatures meet in nature on their way to the sea. Hydrophonic recordings from a Swedish forest lake have been used on this composition, and melodies have been created on the basis of the idea that this is the only one of Weie's works where the two beings meet. There are, in addition to these commissions, two compositions on the release, which have been composed spontaneously through 2023, as part of Cort Lunde's work with intuitive music creation and improvisation.
