Phil Sargent: A New Day
Tra le buone ragioni per mettersi all'ascolto di quest'album c'è la voce gentile di Aubrey Johnson, la quale si rende protagonista svolgendo un ruolo di continuo dialogo con le linee disegnate da Sargent, che a sua volta riserva molto spazio all'egregia sezione ritmica - capace sia di spingere con il tiro da rock band che di modellarsi sugli arrangiamenti in maniera discreta - composta dal basso corposo Greg Laughman e dal drumming inesorabile di Mike Connors, già protagonisti del progetto Iskar del 2005.
Sargent direziona la musica a suo piacimento, ora verso lidi caldi e rassicuranti, come in "Kelita" o nella lunga title track - impreziosita dall'intervento pianistico di John Funkhouser -, poi sconfinando in ambiti rock/pop con un suono tagliente e penetrante ("8/31"), fino a virare nell'introspezione formale di "Gridlock" e dar fondo a una deflagrante riserva d'energia in "Powerplay".
