Open Jazz Quartet: A Day Will Come
A Day Will Come dell'Open Jazz Quartet è un progetto "aperto," nato dopo l'incontro, nel 2010, di Plasmati con il sassofonista Martin Jacobsen e completato dai fidi Marcello Nisi e Luca Alemanno.
Il musicista di Matera ha firmato la maggior parte dei brani presenti nell'album, tracciando le linee di un corposo modern jazz, dove la melodia ha un peso fondamentale. Grazie alle sue esperienze con musicisti del calibro di Randy Brecker, Steve Grossman e Vince Mendoza, solo per citarne alcuni, è riuscito a dare un suono dal respiro internazionale, assimilando l'estro compositivo di ciascuno di loro per poi arricchire il suo bagaglio tecnico e dare un'impronta personalissima al proprio stile.
Biglietti da visita migliori non potevano che essere i due brani d'apertura, avvolgenti e coinvolgenti, con il suono rotondo e caldo di Jacobsen. Strutture tutt'altro che cervellotiche, niente viene fatto solo per "sorprendere," nessuna contaminazione, solo del sano jazz attuale.
Anche quando vengono affrontate le ballad, come la title track o la splendida "Sugar's" a firma di Nisi, c'è solo un lontanissimo sguardo al passato, una cura particolare per i suoni e, in primis, un coinvolgimento paritario di tutto il quartetto.
C'è spazio anche per due standards, giusto ponte fra passato e presente, eseguiti in maniera impeccabile, in particolare "The Nearness of You" eseguita da Plasmati e Jacobsen in duo.
La scelta di formare questo Open Jazz Quartet è stata sicuramente vincente. Comunque le parole contano sempre fino ad un certo punto, il nostro augurio e il nostro consiglio è di ascoltarlo quanto prima...
