Cadence: Twenty For One
ByWhen it comes to jazz, "The Dry Cleaner From Des Moines has a scintillating air. The vocal tradeoffs, the doo-wop singing, and the trumpet voiced by Dylan Bell (but this time sliding in) all go to make it a winner. Cadence has more surprises along the way. As the musicians loosen an effervescent "Hit That Jive Jack, they turn it back into time and sound as if parts of the song were recorded on a Victrola. And with some fine scatting from Bell, Ross Lynde, and Carl Berger, it certainly plays well. Berger wrote "The Perfect Kiss, a love song endowed with intensity and depth by its harmonies. Many aspects of this music capture the imagination.
