Mondongo: Transparent Skin

"Ti piace vincere facile..." recitava qualche tempo fa un ben noto tormentone pubblicitario. La stessa cosa potremmo dire di Mondongo, formazione allestita dal batterista canadese André Michel Arraiz-Rivas che, insieme al bassista Giacomo Papetti, presenta, a modesto parere di chi scrive, i due sassofonisti più interessanti della generazione dei trentenni. Perché avere Francesco Bigoni al sax tenore e Piero Bittolo Bon al sax contralto là davanti a macinar gioco, è come partire da due a zero e palla al centro.

Le composizioni, provenienti tutte dalla penna di André Michel Arraiz-Rivas, sono caratterizzate da un andamento perlopiù mantrico, da uno sviluppo a tratti seriale. Il basso elettrico pulsa come un cuore matto, a volte con grande frequenza, altre con misurato relax e fornisce la scarica elettrica ideale per innescare i due fiati. Che, un po' a sorpresa, non si lanciano in scorribande frenetiche o in assoli a rotta di collo. Cercano piuttosto la via di un dialogo obliquo, con unisoni che hanno nell'alchemica miscela timbrica il loro fascino e con controcanti senza rete, borderline, in bilico tra la ferrea e anomala cadenza ritmica di un Steve Coleman e le sofisticate, complesse visioni improvvisative di un Henry Threadgill.

Transparent Skin è un album coraggioso nel proporre una musica brumosa, qualche volta oscura, dalla cornice quasi crepuscolare, nella quale la bravura dei musicisti sta nell'esaltare l'armonia tra la rigidità della scrittura e delle forme con le fantasiose invenzioni solistiche e di gruppo. Musica che sa essere terrigna, groovy, fisicamente comunicativa e coinvolgente ma anche astratta, musica lontana da eccessi e sperimentalismi ma in grado di solleticare l'ascoltatore più esigente grazie a soluzioni sofisticate e ardite.
