St. Germain: Tourist
From the peppy five take of the opening single "Rose Rogue" to the Hammond-ed gospel of "Land of'" and the frenetic bourre of "So Flute," St. Germain guides brave aural tourists through a wild ride through the many sides of jazz. The riddims of "Montego Bay Spleen" are pure dance hall, while the rhythms of "Pont Des Arts" come straight from the dance club.
The album is an eclectic mix, but it's impressively held together through references to the time-tested likes of Brubeck, Miles, Hamp and Mann and their at times more impressive contemporary re-workings.
