Tom Harrell: The Time of the Sun
Tom Harrell punta invece sulla conseguenza "romantica" dell'incipit, sulla solarità intesa come bellezza dei contorni, limpidità dei sentimenti, eleganza delle forme. The Time of the Sun risulta così un lavoro dalla struttura canonica, basato prevalentemente sui tempi medi, con qualche escursione nelle ballads e negli up tempo e costruito, naturalmente, attorno al lirismo e al timbro inconfondibile del leader.
La band è solida e affiatata, i suoi membri si ritagliano a turno spazi solistici nei quali mettono in mostra la loro completa adesione all'ortodossia jazzistica e si muovono con grande disinvoltura all'interno di confini ben definiti. Ogni nota di Harrell suona unica, essenziale, sembra contenere il mondo intero filtrato da una sensibilità rara che rimanda un grande senso di pace e di serenità. Le composizioni del leader si dipanano tra sofisticate trame armoniche e impercettibili variazioni metriche, scivolando leggere e accompagnando l'ascoltatore in un tranquillo viaggio verso l'isola dei sogni.
