Zoe Theodorou

Born: October 30, 1967

Hearing Zoë sing, it dawns on you how she is naturally able to encompass the heart of a tune and make it completely her own. In simple terms, she was born to sing. Growing up in Clearwater Florida, she first found her voice in various high school productions. After moving to Canada, and attending several jazz vocal workshops, she was asked to go overseas, where she sharpened her singing and performing talents in a show band. When she returned to Canada, she developed her jazz skills, while fronting a popular R & B Band. Her other credits include being featured vocally on various commercials and jingles as well as being showcased on the nationally syndicated CBC Radio Two show “Disc Drive”, where she performed live acoustic versions of selected material from her upcoming album. Because of her natural gift to relate to people both musically and personally, Zoë was chosen to be in the fourth season of the popular award winning Canadian documentary/reality show “Taking It Off” which airs on the Life Network across Canada, and on the Discovery Channel in the U.K. The excitement, energy and life which are the very essence of Zoë (her name means “life” in Greek) is now harnessed, as evidenced in her full length album of original material entitled “Essence of Life”

Cana Son is a Cuban son band that plays traditional son music. The group focuses on popular Cuban son from the turn of the last century through the nineteen fifties. Following son music's history out of the Eastern Provinces of Cuba to the Capital of Havana and beyond. Son is the forefather of contemporary salsa music and is said to be the most important genre of Cuban music. Cana Son covers material from favorite son giants such as Trio Matamoros, Guillermo Portabales, Celina y Reutilio (Celina Gonzalez), Ramon Veloz, Joseito Fernandez, Ignacio Pineiro (Septeto Nacional), Compay Segundo (Los Compadres), Eliades Ochoa (Cuarteto Patria), Nico Saquito, Arsenio Rodriguez, Felix Chapottin, Beny More, La Sonora Matancera, Celia Cruz, Cachao, and many others

Melissa Stylianou

Born: September 30, 1976

Jazz vocalist, lyricist, and educator Melissa Stylianou, hailed by piano master Fred Hersch for her “gorgeous instrument, superb musicianship, and great taste,” has garnered acclaim as both a gifted songwriter and a bold, imaginative interpreter of wide-ranging material spanning diverse many genres, from the Great American Songbook to Johnny Cash to Joanna Newsom. Stylianou is also one-third of the infectious, Boswell Sisters-inspired close-harmony vocal trio Duchess, which has amassed many mentions in year-end critics’ polls and received the 2021 & 2022 Vocal Group of the Year Award from the Jazz Journalists Association.

In addition to her five albums as a leader and four with Duchess to date, Stylianou has documented her close musical bond with guitar legend Gene Bertoncini and sought-after bassist Ike Sturm on the 2022 album Dream Dancing

Petra van Nuis

Born: August 1, 1975

Petra van Nuis (pronounced Pay-tra van Nouse) is a Chicago-based jazz vocalist who has been described in Downbeat Magazine as having "a light, gorgeous and fairly delicate voice...a gift for melody and plenty of rhythmic confidence." All About Jazz Magazine calls her music "hauntingly atmospheric and filled with creative substance...poetic, moving and subtly provocative." Famed jazz critic and author of "Singing Jazz" Bruce Crowther says "van Nuis is not as well known internationally as should be the case although she has a devoted following in Japan. An exceptionally gifted singer, she has a light yet subtly textured sound and is always delightfully melodic....lyrics are clearly very important to her and she delivers them with admirable sincerity."

Fermata Nowhere

Fermata Nowhere is a professional Vocal Jazz sextet out of Duluth, MN. All six members studied vocal jazz at the University of Minnesota in Duluth, and were part of UMD's highly regarded Vocal Jazz ensemble, "Lake Effect", when the group was cited by “DownBeat Magazine” winning the coveted award for “Outstanding Performance” of College Vocal Jazz Choirs in 2006. A large part of the group's repertoire consists of Christmas/Winter arrangements, making them popular at holiday parties. Fermata (for short) also performs a growing number of secular, pop, and off-beat pieces. The group's baritone, Eric Hagmann, is a great young composer/arranger and has arranged nearly half of the group's music! Fermata Nowhere provides an energetic and musically expressive program to suit any occasion.

Amanda Carr

Born: September 20, 1962

Boston born daughter of Big Band vocalist, Nancy Carr and trumpet player, Nick Capezuto, Amanda Carr is a multi-styled vocalist/pianist that, although began early on in the rock and pop genre has more recently focused on fresh interpretations of the Great American Songbook, following in her parent’s musical footsteps. For three decades she has recorded and performed internationally, adding her own musical gems as well which have received critical acclaim from a tough bevy of jazz reviewers including 4-stars from All Music Guide,Jazz Review.com donned her “…a first rate vocalist” and she was featured and praised by Nat Hentoff in a back-page story/article in the September 2007 issue of The Wall Street Journal

Frantic Turtle merges poetry, music, and performance into philosophically viral mixtures like existentialist dancehall, punk-prayer, and toasted jazz poetry. We're into strictly avant expression - the over-fed language of the urban god-piece. And jumpy grooves on the background to keep your ids dancing.

Shane Allenger

Born: June 18, 1966

What happens when you mix rock, blues, soul and even country with a hint of the islands? You get Hi Tide. Anyone who has visited The Cayman Islands recently would tell you that Hi Tide is a must see. Founding members Shane Allenger and Sean Hennings have been writing and playing together in bands since 1984 and formed Hi Tide in 1994. Prior to the formation of the band, Shane, (lead vocals and congas) lived and worked in Nashville, Tennessee where he performed regularly on TNN with many country greats such as Conway Twitty, Loretta Lynn, Nicolette Larson and Randy Travis. Meanwhile, Sean (guitar, drums and vocals) had been in Hollywood, California, improving his drumming and music skills at the popular Musicians Institute of Technology. As for influences, Shane says that some of his singing and songwriting inspirations come from Sting, Annie Lennox, Peter Gabriel, Michael McDonald and James Imgram while Sean says his drumming influences include Steve Gadd, Dave Weckel, Stewart Copeland and Carlton Barrett of Bob Marley and The Wailers. Since 1994, Hi Tide has been busy playing full time in Cayman as well as taking time out to perform with and open for the likes of Bon Jovi, Jimmy Cliff, Third World, Shabba, The Jeff Healy Band, Garbage, George Duke & Al Jarreau. In 1997, they received runner-up honors in the Rhythms of The Caribbean Competition sponsored by Island Records and The New Yorker Magazine

Remember When

Created in the style of many big band and vocal groups from the past, Remember When is a performing Vocal Group, singing Big Band Vocals, Jazz Standards and Movie Favorites in the greater Los Angeles area. The music is presented in a close harmony four part (SATB) style. The group performs a capella and with a big band sound tracks for a full orchestration of sound. Remember When's musical selections features Jazz Standards, Movie and Broadway favorites tunes & Big Band Vocals. Many of the tunes are very familiar to the general public. All of their music is familiar to a various age groups, and is performed in a unique multi-part jazz harmony style. Our musical style is reminiscent of the Pied Pipers, the Modernaires, Manhattan Transfer and New York Voices. Originally from Oxford, I have been in Bristol for a number of years and over the last few months may have been spotted singing in Marlows, Seymours and, most often, at Tantric Jazz, St Nicholas Street, Bristol. I'm pleased that people are appreciating our mix of cool jazz, hot swing and smooth latin. There are some great jazz musicians in Bristol and I have been lucky enough to sing with a number of them. The jazz scene in this area is very cool and definitely worth investigating. I've been singing since before I can remember.
