“My greatest inspiration as a child came from my father's old record collection stored in a box in the fruit cellar. I listened to the music of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Frank Sinatra, Peggy Lee and popular singers like Petula Clark and Dusty Springfield. All of the greats". While attending the University of Toronto, Irene Atman began her career as a jazz singer as the lead vocalist with the Stan Hiltz Orchestra. "One of the greatest things about singing with this big band was that some of the best musicians in the world would sub in - greats like Moe Koffman on flute and sax." Annie Denison

Annie Denison is a great jazz singer. (Even musicians love her) She has performed with her critically acclaimed 'Annie & the Jazz Orphans', which features Jim Kaczmarek (sax), Barry Velleman (piano), John Babbitt (bass) and Bob Budny (drummer, arranger, composer, bassist (?), and author of this bio). Annie has also gigged with Melvin Rhyne, Berkeley Fudge, Mike Barnett.... since her first pro jazz gig at the age of 12 with her father, Trad-Jazz cornetist Ben Denison. She is currently in rehearsal with 'En Clave,' a new Latin-Jazz project featuring Ms. D. on vocals and piano, Bob Budny on bass, and a rotating Latin percussion chair (That's got to be painful!)

Celia Chavez

Celia Chavez worked non-stop in both Seattle and New York as a session vocalist, a backup vocalist, a songwriter, a jingle writer, and a musician. She co-wrote and has vocals featured on European trance hits by Cosmic Culture as well as Swiss producer DJ Spoke. She sang with reggae legend Burning Spear on his Grammy-nominated album Our Music and is featured in the studio footage of the album's DVD. Celia recently sang backup with Julia Fordham and violinist Lili Haydn. Celia penned the majority of the songs on Sailor's Daughter in her tiny Queens apartment. The album is a collection of jazz informed meditations on love, remoteness and longing partly inspired by the life and adventures of her father, a former merchant seaman

Ed Reed

Born: February 2, 1929

In his 84 years, Ed Reed has gained great insight into the joys and especially the sorrows of the human condition. The San Francisco Bay Area-based jazz vocalist, who made hisrecording debut in 2007 at the age of 78, has imparted what he has learned with consummate musical subtlety, emotion-searing depth of feeling, and the nuanced delivery of a master storyteller on his critically-acclaimed CDs. The first two, "Ed Reed Sings Love Stories" (2007) and "The Song Is You" (2008) are collections of tunes from the Broadway, Tin Pan Alley, and jazz traditions drawn from Reed’s near-encyclopedic knowledge of the Great American Songbook.

My family has always been very musical. I've always been surrounded by live music, education and art. The family traveled to small towns with my musician father playing at dances in the sixties. He played boogie woogie piano, bluegrass and country music on the guitar. Jeanette Parsadanian

Jeanette Parsadanian has been gifted ever since she was 5 years old (1959) with a beautiful singing voice. Along the years she sang in the Chorus group in Jr. High School. (1967) She went from there in taking 7 years of voice training (1968-1975) in Hollywood from an Music teacher, George Carr. She then became born again in 1973 at Pastor Shock's Church, Faith Center, in Glendale, California. She started singing in 1975 at the Full Gospel Bus. Men's Fellowship in the Wilshire area on Radio KFSG. In 1976 she sang in the Choir at Christ Church where later she met Pastor Eddie Parsadanian. She sang on Channel 40 at Christ Church which was televised on Sundays

Diego El Cigala

Born: 1968

Diego el Cigala - Flamenco vocalist Diego Ramón Jiménez Salazar was born in Madrid in December of 1968. The flamenco singer, Diego, el Cigala, is one of the most praised heirs of Camarón de la Isla in the cante flamenco, and it was Camarón himself who gave him the moniker Dieguito el Cigala. Coming from a family of artists, he is the nephew of Rafael Farina. He grew up in the Rastro neighborhood of Madrid, where he began to make his own experiences as cantaor. At the young age of 12, he won first prize in the Young Flamenco Artist Contest of Getafe and an award on the TVE talent show, “Gente jóven.” He soon began to play at dances, being solicited by dancers like Cristóbal Reyes, Mario Maya, Manolete, Farruco, Manuel Camacho, and El Güito, among others.
