Biografie AL GOODAH: nourishment for the soul Musical career Al Goodah (Carlo Goedhart) draws on a rich cultural heritage of Caribbean music. Born in Paramaribo (Surinam), he grew up in a family of singers and musicians. His mother and sister sang in a choir, one aunt was an opera singer in Curacao, another was a choir director in Surinam, and his grandfather played the guitar and had performed as a professional accompanist to silent movies. His grandfather also had a good grasp of music theory and was able to coach the children in the family to enter local singing competitions. By the age of nine, Carlo’s voice was already impressive and he was soon gaining stage experience via song festivals, appearances as a gospel singer with a brother and cousin, and performances at a local grand hotel Torarica. At 17 he was touring Suriname with his brother as part of a cultural music group. His growing reputation led to an invitation to switch musical genre and become lead singer in up-and-coming Surinamese pop group Exodus

Kimberly Reason

Known for her ability to sing fast swing in one turn and tender, crystal-clear ballads the next, Kimberly discovered jazz through her mother, a former beauty queen who grew up in a tenement off Jackson Street during the heyday of Seattle’s legendary jazz scene in the 1940s. As a child, Kimberly studied piano at Cornish College of the Arts and sang in church choirs, including Kent Stevenson's gospel group, The Urban Rhythm Chorus. More recently, she has studied under Pamela Casella, Carolyn Graye, Andrienne Wilson, and Karen Olson. She produced her CD, Kimberly Reason with the Larry Fuller Trio, in 2004

Xiomara Laugart

Xiomara Laugart - Latin vocalist Xiomara Laugart is Cuban. This alone makes her a competitor in the music industry. She was born with a fusion of rhythms in her veins. Moreover, Xiomara Laugart is a "Guantanamera," also the name of a quintessential Cuban folk song. Guantánamo is the easternmost province in Cuba, where even the palm trees sing and dance. At the age of 15 she began her career. Soon thereafter, her voice was considered a true prodigy that allowed her to perform the most diverse genres. She performed several different expressions of traditional and contemporary Cuban music. During the 1980s, she entered the “Adolfo Guzmán” Contest for Cuban music where she was granted the highest award. Liz Childs

Accompanying herself on piano, or singing with her jazz trio, Liz Childs has appeared at numerous clubs and cabarets throughout the northeast, including the Rainbow Room with the Rainbow Room Orchestra, Windows on the World, and the Danny and Sylvia Kaye Playhouse in New York City. Born and raised in New York City, Liz began her jazz education at Antioch College studying flute with a member of the Cecil Tylor ensemble, in residence at Antioch. After winning a scholarship to study voice at Hunter College, Liz moved back to her home town were she had the good fortune to study with jazz greats; pianist Don Friedman, bassist Milt Hinton, and trumpeters Buck Clayton and Jon Faddis. After graduating from Hunter with a Bachelor of Music in Jazz Vocal Performance, Liz performed for several years all over New England, playing and singing everywhere from the Sagamore Hotel in the Adirondacks, to the race track in Saratoga Springs, to the Deer Isle Lupine Festival in Maine. Liz won a scholarship to study singing at the Eugene O'Neill Cabaret Symposium in New London, Connecticut, where she met and worked with Margaret Whiting and Sylvia Syms
