She began to study voice privately at the age of 12, and went on to study with some of the best voice teachers in the St. Louis area. In high school, she was introduced to jazz by singing with the jazz ensemble and from recordings her choir director gave her. After graduating, she moved to Texas to attend The University of North Texas to study in the jazz program under the direction of Paris Rutherford and Rosana Eckert, and many other great professors
