Emma Larsson

Born:

Let It Go, Emma Larsson’s latest release on Imogena Records, is a collection of vivid, self-penned pieces. As a young Scandinavian, Larsson inevitably has a strong interest in form and aesthetics. It means that the stretch of her interests and influences is global, but her viewpoint is strongly individual. The make up of her current Quintet reflects this global spread. From New York's jazz scene is pianist Benito Gonzalez. On the Scandinavian side are Finns Joonathan Rautio playing saxophone and Jukkis Uuotila on drums, and from Sweden, Christian Spering on bass. Specific influences are hard to pinpoint, but in her effort to integrate musical ideas with explicit vocalised themes Larsson draws on traditions of American jazz more than any other

Devin Bing

Born:

Born and raised on Long Island, New York, Devin began his journey at the early age of six. As he sat down at a dusty, barely tuned, upright piano in the basement of his father’s live theater, he discovered an unequivocal infatuation for the art of music. Through childhood and into adolescence, Devin’s passion for jazz intensified along with the yearning to create and perform it. “It was ‘My Funny Valentine’ that ultimately did it for me. I remember casually sitting down at the piano one day before dinner and I performed it for my parents. By the end of the song, they stood there motionless with their jaws dropped

Mads Mathias

Born:

Described by Danish daily broadsheet Politiken as “Denmark’s leading male jazz vocalist, on the verge of an international breakthrough” and by Gaffa as “an international star in the making”, Mads Mathias is a vocalist/ songwriter/saxophonist, who has captured the hearts of music lovers with his charismatic performances, spirited personality and creative original songs. Inspired and influenced by the great jazz vocalists of the past and present from Nat King Cole and Frank Sinatra to Harry Connick Jr, and with a deep respect for the jazz tradition, Mathias is nevertheless an original talent with a unique and effortlessly charming vocal delivery and a skill for writing catchy and memorable, stylishly crafted tunes. “With his…Cole Porter knack of writing deceptively simple yet tightly structured tunes, which sound as though they’ve been lifted straight out of The Great American Songbook, it’s easy to see why singer-saxophonist Mads Mathias won the Danish Music Award for Best New Jazz Artist Of The Year” - Reviewsphere (review of Edinburgh Jazz Festival performance 2016) His first release, ‘Free Falling’, is a hugely ambitious project with contributions from twenty-five musicians in a mix of big band, strings and small group arrangements
