MUSICIAN Born:

Vasil Hadzimanov

Vasil’s concept of mixing Balkan traditional, folk rhythms and melodies with modern musical styles (most originating from the west, including: jazz; funk; avant garde; electronica; rock; trance; and more) has been the impetus for creating his own unique "musical hybrid," of sorts. This sophisticated sonic stew is completely original, authentic and embraces a bold new approach to musical expression within the context of the fusion and jazz genres. It was this vision that inspired him to form The Vasil Hadzimanov Band, back in 1995 — when they made their first recordings and began performing live. In 2001, the group released their first official album release, "11 reasons for…," published by the major Eastern European regional label, PGP-RTS

Leonardo Pavkovic: Nothing is Ordinary

Read "Leonardo Pavkovic: Nothing is Ordinary" reviewed by Chris M. Slawecki

More than any other person, Leonardo Pavkovic has made me write some crazy shit. Pavkovic is the primal force behind the joyously eclectic MoonJune Records, which he established in 2001. “Established" may not be the right word: “I am truly an unusual and rules breaking call-it-record-company with a 'label' identity despite the fact that ...

Read "Live at Kolarac" reviewed by Nenad Georgievski

The duet album between two simultaneously very similar and very opposite musicians, pianists Vasil Hadzimanov and Bojan Zulfikarpasic documents their two encounters that occurred in February and October 2015 at the prestigious concert hall in Belgrade, Kolarac. Both musicians have their distinguished careers in often different branches of jazz, have different sensibilities and yet they still ...

Nenad Georgievski's Best Releases of 2016

Read "Nenad Georgievski's Best Releases of 2016" reviewed by Nenad Georgievski

There is a poem by a Russian poet Velimir Khlebnikov titled “When Horses Die" that I came across to by accident. It goes like “When horses die they breathe when grasses die, they wither, when suns die they go out, and when people die they sing songs." For many musicians, the year 2016 was final and ...

All About Jazz & Jazz Near You were built to promote jazz music: both recorded and live events. We rely primarily on venues, festivals and musicians to promote their events through our platform. With club closures, shelter in place and an uncertain future, we've pivoted our platform to collect, promote and broadcast livestream concerts to support our jazz musician friends. This is a significant but neccesary effort that will help musicians now, and in the future. You can help offset the cost of this essential undertaking by making a donation today. In return, we'll deliver an ad-free experience (which includes hiding the bottom right video ad). Thank you.
