Tom Foster

Born: March 6, 1956

Tom Foster attended North Texas State University majoring in percussion and Jazz Education. He has appeared in many television, radio, and theater performances and has performed on a variety of recordings including film scores (Bye Bye Blues), albums, and jingles.

Tom toured Canada and Europe with the Edmonton Jazz Ensemble (EdJE), winners of the 1988 Alcan Jazz Competition, and toured Japan and mainland China in 1983 with the Tommy Banks Quintet.

He has performed with a host of notable international musicians including:

Colleen Savage

Born: February 20, 1949

I am a music performer and a program administrator with a background in arts, education and co-operatives. I’ve been active as a jazz singer and educator on the Vancouver music scene for over 30 years. I have toured across Canada and into the US to perform at many major jazz festivals, I present a regular schedule of voice workshops, I direct a community choir and I recently released my second CD under my own name. I believe jazz is a saving grace within our North American culture. My aim is to further develop my ability to create and deliver programs which support healthy and creative community living, specifically singing good music and singing it well.

Anita Eccleston

Born: October 31, 1982

Vocalist and trumpet player Anita Eccleston writes music deeply influenced by jazz – catchy songs that resonate.

While Vancouver based trumpet player and vocalist Anita Eccleston has been dazzling jazz audiences for a long time, in recent years her chops have been honed as a music producer of lofi dream jazz. 

“I needed to do something different and I didn’t realize how much I would love creating these new songs from the beats up as a producer. The “Gala” projects have taken on so much life and given me such a liberated feeling.” 

John Korsrud

Honored with the City of Vancouver’s Mayor’s Arts Award for Music for 2012, John is a composer, producer, trumpet player, and educator based in Vancouver. He is the leader and principle composer of the 17-piece Hard Rubber Orchestra, a highly active jazz/ new music ensemble that has toured to Europe and across Canada, released two CDs, and is the recipient of Canada’s largest arts prize, The Alcan Arts Award. As a composer John performed on his own trumpet concerto, Come to the Dark Side, at New York’s Carnegie Hall in 2010, commissioned and performed by The American Composers Orchestra

Birds of Paradox

Birds of Paradox is a collaboration between Ron Samworth, Lan Tung, and Neelamjit Dhillon that began in December of 2007 to explore the fusion of composition and improvisation. The unique instrumentation - erhu/voice, guitars/effects, and tabla/alto saxophone, provides a wealth of textural possibilities to these three versatile composer/performers. Three very distinct voices and cultural backgrounds come together as a creative whole. Samworth is from Anglo/Irish roots, Dhillon: Indian, and Tung: Chinese. The traditional musics of these cultures are infinitely rich unto themselves - but the transformation and synthesis of these traditions into a contemporary expression of life in post-millennial Vancouver is what compels this group. Mike St-Jean

Born: March 13, 1985

Composer and drummer Mike St-Jean together with electronic artist and filmographer Math Rosen join forces in ProJect, a collaboration that presents jazz-meets-electronic atmospheres and grooves in a new light, creating an innovative sound unlike any other this country has to offer. Tim Gerwing

Born: November 20, 1971

Tim Gerwing was born in Canada, but experienced his childhood in Germany. Early lessons in classical piano gave way to experimentation with jazz, electronic, new age, progressive rock/pop, and Middle and Far Eastern musics. The purchase of his first synthesizer and electric guitar in the late 80's were turning points and very much shaped what was to become his signature sound. Summer of 2002 saw the release of Gerwing's first solo album, "B2B". The album received international radio airplay in Canada, Japan, Holland, Australia, Poland, Russia, and the USA. Music from BTB was recently featured on the Genie Award winning "Suzuki Speaks". Gerwing's 2nd major release, "The Butterfly Effect", is now available and receiving critical acclaim in Canada, Europe, Siberia, and Asia. Canadian Guitarist. Vancouver, British Columbia-based. Award winning composer, guitarist, pianist and singer. Jazz and Latin music genres. Awarded Canada Council Grant for composition. Sideman for Juno nominee Karin Plato. Honourable mention in the Vancouver Sun for his guitar work on her CD Pastiche. Sideman for the Platters. David has studied music with John Abercrombie, Dave Holland, Kenny Wheeler, George Adams, Ted Quinlan and Owen Underhill.
