Chris Aschman

Born: February 1, 1986

Trumpeter/steelpan musician Chris Aschman enjoys a multi-faceted career as a performer, educator, studio musician, and arranger. Currently based in the San Francisco Bay Area, he brings a special versatility to the many ensembles he performs with. 

A Baltimore native, Chris segued to Philadelphia to study jazz trumpet at the University of the Arts with John Swana and George Rabbai in 2004. Since this time he has enjoyed a diverse career, having shared the stage with Paquito D’Rivera, Stanley Clarke, Aretha Franklin, Dionne Warwick, Bakithi Kumalo, Chaka Khan, Kool and the Gang, Andy Narell, Guster, Father John Misty, The O’Jays, The Boxtops, G Love and Special Sauce, Lotus, Dopapod, Tauk, and many others. He has performed at venues such as Philadelphia's Verizon Hall, The National Cathedral in Washington DC, the Queens Park Savannah in Port of Spain Trinidad, Iridium (NYC), Smalls (NYC), The Jazz Standard (NYC), The Herbst Theatre (SF), August Hall (SF), The Independent (SF), The Black Cat (SF), Yoshi's Oakland, and more. 

Oscar Evans

Born: June 29

Oscar Evans is a jazz composer and multi-instrumentalist from Kingston, Ontario specializing in upright bass and trumpet. Blinded in his adolescence, Oscar has gravitated toward learning multiple instruments as a medium for understanding music theory and musicianship, and specializes in bass, drums, and trumpet.

Oscar pursued his passion for jazz at Humber College where he majored in trumpet. In 2025, Oscar released two albums of jazz standards—one featuring him on trumpet, titled Library Sessions, and the other featuring him on bass, titled Live at the Hotel Wolfe Island. His Gotta Start Somewhere EP featuring four original compositions was released in December 2025. Oscar consistently pushes his own boundaries to create interesting new music. His 2026 album Sound Permutations is a solo free jazz project on which Oscar plays bass, drums and trumpet. Forthcoming in 2027 is a full length album of original compositions titled Vibration Society which was recorded at the Bathouse Studio in Bath, Ontario with the support of a project recording grant from the Ontario Arts Council.

João Lenhari

João Lenhari is a Brazilian trumpeter, composer,
arranger, and educator based in Montreal. The first
musician to earn a Doctorate in Jazz Performance
from the Université de Montréal, he studied with
Canadian jazz legend Ron Di Lauro, whom he
succeeded as Musical Director of the university’s Big
Band in 2023.
Recognized as an arranger, Lenhari has worked with
ensembles and artists such as Nelson Ayres Big
Band, Brasil Jazz Sinfônica, Banda Urbana, Leticia
Persilles, Diogo Ramos, and Taïs Reganelli, and was
twice a finalist for the Prêmio Profissionais da
Música. He has also composed and arranged
soundtracks for film and television, including the
feature film Chacrinha, o Velho Guerreiro, the short
film Inevitável, and the Netflix miniseries Os Donos
do Jogo.

Brian Quakenbush

Born: April 22, 1967

Brian Quakenbush has been involved with music for much of his life. Originally from Central North Carolina, he played French horn and trumpet through high school. While attending UNC- Chapel Hill, he was an active free-lance musician in the Raleigh-Durham-Chapel Hill areas performing with the North Carolina Symphony, Show Choirs with Brightleaf Music Camps at Duke University, UNC Symphony, Durham Symphony, and the Raleigh Symphony, and sitting in countless musicals performing in the pit. While studying at UNC with Jim Ketch, his mentor teacher, he became a founding member of the North Carolina Jazz Repertory Orchestra, which performs music of historical importance. During this time at UNC he met his wife, Jenny, and soon moved to the hills of Bristol, Tennessee. While in Bristol, Brian attended East Tennessee State University, where he performed in the Johnson City Symphony and the ETSU Faculty Brass Quintet. After graduating, Brian became band director at Virginia High School in Bristol, Virginia, where he took the band to Virginia Honor Band status by receiving Superior ratings in Marching and Concert Assessment within the same school year. After two years at Virginia High, the Quakenbushes relocated to Lynchburg, where he was band director at Heritage High School, where his bands twice received Virginia Honor Band status in Virginia.

Brian is the band director at Blacksburg Middle School in Blacksburg, Virginia. The program is known for its dedication to music education and student achievement.

Noah Allen

Noah Allen is a trumpet player, composer, songwriter, and producer from Uxbridge, Massachusetts. He began his musical journey in church, first playing drums at the age of four before picking up the trumpet at eight. It was in that same church setting where he honed his ear, learned to read music, and began composing.

Over the past six years, Allen has been an active presence in the Providence and Boston music scenes. In 2023, he was featured on Love & the Catalyst by Aimée Allen—an album nominated for Best Vocal Jazz Album at the NAACP Image Awards. That same summer, Allen joined the National Youth Jazz Orchestra under the direction of Sean Jones, touring Europe and performing at renowned venues including Carnegie Hall and London’s Royal Albert Hall.

Dmytro Vorobiov

Born: June 19, 1990

Dmytro Vorobiov is a composer and multi-instrumentalist exploring the space between ambient soundscapes and jazz improvisation. His work draws on the energy and openness of Miles Davis' electric period, reframed through a modern, forward-looking lens. Working solo, he performs and records all instruments himself, building layered pieces that emphasize structure, texture, and emotional movement. Wandering Spaces is his debut full-length — a continuous journey that favors extended forms over song-by-song singles, and invites listeners into a patient, immersive sound world.

Ian Torres

Born: December 15, 1976

Ian Torres is a Chicago-based trumpeter, composer, and producer whose music lives at the crossroads of composition and improvisation. A veteran of Chicago’s vibrant jazz scene, Torres has spent years developing a voice that blends the expressive freedom of live performance with the craft and precision of modern studio production.

After leading the Ian Torres Big Band from 2008–2014 — culminating in the release of the acclaimed album January (2013) — Torres expanded his creative vision through his personal studio, Sótano Creativo Studios, where he writes, records, and produces his projects from the ground up. His approach reflects a lifelong curiosity about sound: horns and synths converse freely, rhythm and harmony evolve organically, and every layer contributes to a sense of motion and immediacy.

Dave Mossing

Born: 1975

Trumpeter Dave Mossing has been an active member of Montreal’s jazz community for over 30 years.  He has performed, recorded and travelled with many of the city’s most renowned musicians and groups including Renee Lee, Oliver Jones, Karen Young, the Juno award winning Christine Jensen Jazz Orchestra, Joe Sullivan Big Band and the Orchestre National de Jazz de Montréal just to name a few.  Homesteaders is Mossing’s debut record as a leader, and he is  pleased to be partnered with Bent River Records for this project

Charlie Spivak

Born: February 17, 1907

Charlie Spivak was a popular American bandleader and trumpeter, most prominent during the swing era (roughly 1933 - 1947). Born on February 17, 1907, Spivak's early career was spent performing with some of the period's top bands, including the orchestras of Tommy and Jimmy Dorsey and Glenn Miller as well as Bob Crosby's small Dixieland combo the Bob Cats. As a bandleader himself, Spivak became known as "The Man Who Plays the Sweetest Trumpet in the World" and drew favourable comparisons to Harry James, America's number one trumpet idol of the 1940s. Though he never achieved the same level of fame or critical aclaim as some of his contemporaries, such as Miller, James, the Dorseys or Benny Goodman, his records were consistently popular, especially during World War II
