Josiel Konrad

Josiel Konrad is a virtuoso trombonist, composer and more recently singer. His inspiration is John Coltrane, Urbie Green, Djavan, Gilberto Gil, Milton Nascimento, Chico Buarque, Trombone Shorty, Gregory Porter and Gretchen Parlato. Born 22 November 1986 Baixada Fluminense in Rio de Janeeiro Brasil a trombone player since a young age, he learnt to play music in the local church. JK is from a large musical family, his brother taught him to play and read music. His eclectic musical style is influenced by traditional Brazilian jazz, contemporary jazz and jazz pop. Konrad released his first solo albums in 2017 called Timeline and +Amor. Josiel Konrad plays with his quartet in all the best jazz clubs and famous venues in Rio, like Circo Voador in Lapa

Terry Promane is an Associate Professor in Jazz Studies, and a trombonist, prominent on the jazz and commercial music scenes in Toronto for many years. Professor Promane has long sustained an active performing career in the theatre, recording studios, and jazz clubs. Eli Chalmer

Eli Chalmer is a freelance trombonist, band-leader, electronic musician, and composer, based out of New Paltz, New York. Born and raised in Vermont, he fell in love with the trombone when he was 10 years old, after he saw that it was the only brass instrument “without buttons”. His talent was nurtured by the art- friendly Green Mountain State, where he became a soloist and principal trombone in the Vermont Youth Orchestra, and won the All- State scholarship competition for Classical, Jazz, and Composition all in the same year. He went on to receive his Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Trombone Performance from McGill University, studying under the Montreal Symphony Orchestra’s principal trombonist, James Box

"The Cujazz ensemble" is an initiative of the Cuban trombonist Andrés Fernández along with talented Costa Rican musicians, with the aim of paying tribute to the great Cubop members, such as Dizzy Gillespei, Chano Pozo, Frank Emilio Flynn, Machito and his Afro-cubans. Strengthen jazz in central america and the caribbean. The project is formed by two cultures united by the same musical language "Jazz" exposing their experiences and musical experiences with a universal approach. The music of "The Cujazz ensemble" is a combination of original compositions with jazz standards of the 40s, with a great influence of Afro-Cubans jazz, bebop, cooljazz, modern jazz, with elements of Latin American and Caribbean music.

Dave Sporny

After earning his Bachelors and Masters degrees from the University of Illinois, he became the Low Brass Instructor at the Interlochen Arts Academy in Michigan. During his 16 years at Interlochen he founded the Jazz Studies programs at the Academy and at the National Music Camp. He led the Dave Sporny Big Band and the Interlochen Jazz Quintet while being an active performer throughout the Midwest. Since coming to the University in 1982, he has been a frequent recitalist, clinician and freelance trombonist in New England. Being equally comfortable in both classical and jazz traditions, Mr. Sporny has appeared in concert halls throughout the world including Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center, Kennedy Center, Tanglewood and Ravinia
