Celebration Of Clean Feed Records, Part 2

by Maurice Hogue
August 17, 2026

Yes, a Part 2! I had pulled out so much music from the Clean Feed Records catalog that I was left with a raft of music, as deserving to be heard as much as the Clean Feed releases played in the previous tribute episode, so it was an easy choice to just keep it rolling this ...

Daniel Levin, Fala Mariam, Sei Miguel: Panorama

by Alberto Bazzurro
February 20, 2025

Space Quartet: Directions

by Mark Corroto
July 7, 2021

Listen closely to Directions by Rafael Toral's Space Quartet and try to ignore the voice in your head of June Tyson chanting, “space is the place, space is the place." While this is an instrumental production and Toral was born more than fifty years after Sun Ra, a similar aura permeates these six tracks. It's not ...

RED Trio & Celebration Band: Suite 10 Years Anniversary

by John Sharpe
April 6, 2021

Since its inception in 2008 the RED Trio has been one of Portugal's foremost improvising ensembles. Pianist Rodrigo Pinheiro, bassist Hernani Faustino and drummer Gabriel Ferrandini stand upon the shoulders of the egalitarian trio legacy of pianists Bill Evans, Paul Bley and Howard Riley; no-one leads, no-one follows, but, paradoxically, all three move as one. To ...

Sei Miguel: (Five) Stories Untold

by Karl Ackermann
January 6, 2017

As he did on his two previous Clean Feed albums Suite for a Jazz Combo (2010) and Salvation Modes (2014), Portuguese trumpeter Sei Miguel works with the pocket variety of the instrument and sounds superb in the process. With (Five) Stories Untold he utilizes a revolving cast of players in tempering abstraction with an abundance of ...
