Hans Teuber

Hans Teuber has been a mainstay on the Northwest jazz scene for over 25 years, working with Wayne Horvitz, Jeff Johnson, Clay Giberson, and others who lean toward progressive jazz. On his first album as a soloist, Teuber relied on his compositions as the framework for his work on alto and tenor saxophone, flute, and clarinet. His orchestrations are engaging pieces of work without becoming raucous or loud. They naturally tend to frame his considerable fluency and facility with the horns, especially the alto which he seems to favor, such as on "More Illusions" where his alto lays down the playing line while members of the rhythm section dart around like bees buzzing around a nest

Bob Strickland

Born:

Bob Strickland grew up in Dallas, Texas, and his earliest memories of jazz music are from age three, when he first heard his mother’s 78 RPM records of Tommy Dorsey, Stan Kenton, Woody Herman, Harry James, and Gene Krupa. He has since become a player, as well as a jazz and big band historian, familiar with hundreds of different musicians, arrangers, and styles. Although the great trumpeter, Ziggy Elman, instilled a burning desire in Bob to play trumpet, Bob did not begin playing trumpet until age 22, completely missing musical training in a college setting. However, after graduating, he joined various university jazz bands where he was living at the time

The Salvagery

The Salvagery is a three-piece outfit from Portland, Oregon. The three members - Curt Siffert, Steve Turmell, and Steve Morgan - all played together in a large show/jazz combo called Deja Nu. A jam session before a rehearsal led to them deciding to get together on their own time to record some improvisation sessions. The sessions were held in Siffert's living room. Over the course of five sessions, several recordings were complied - the most interesting of the recordings were collected and published into their first release, Triage.
