James Hughes

James is a Detroit-based saxophonist, composer and educator. He has been performing professionally for since 1997. He has been on jazz faculty at Blue Lake Fine Arts Camp since 2007. James has recorded with the Scott Gwinnell Jazz Orchestra, Keith Vreeland, Bobby Streng's House Big Band, Melvin Davis, The Paul Keller Orchestra, Ed Nuccilli & Plural Circle, Alyssa Chirco, and Carl Cafagna's North Star Sextet. He has performed with Dave Liebman, Jimmy Heath, Lew Tebakin, Richie Cole, Arturo Sandoval, Kurt Elling, Jerry Bergonzi, Aretha Franklin, and Josh Groban. He has two recordings of his own, co-lead with Jimmy Smith, titled FROM HERE ON OUT and EVER UP & ONWARD.

Patrick Specht

Born: April 5, 1994

A student at New Trier High School, I have studied privately with Nic Meyer, Dan Nicholson, and Doug Rosenberg. Each is an in demand saxophonist in the city of Chicago, and I hope to keep on playing. My primary horn is baritone saxophone, but I play alto as well. My group, Modern Blues, is a small collection of extremely talented high school musicians who love the music, and wish to start getting into the jazz scene. Each player is selected from the best at the school, and they study with teachers like Marques Carroll and Steve Horne.

Marcus J is an saxophonist rising through the ranks of the Smooth jazz scene. As a product of the great musical city of Nashville, Tennessee, Marcus developed his passion for music at a young age by beginning to play the saxophone at the age of 10. Nashville’s wide range of musical styles and traditions inspired him to develop a unique sound that draws from jazz, R&B, funk, blues, soul and gospel. This contemporary jazz artist also comes from a musical family and found great joy listening to his many musical family members. In 2011, at twenty-two years old, Marcus graduated from college with a degree in Economics and Finance and landed a job on Wall Street. Alex Churchill

Born: October 24, 1989

Alex started playing the tenor saxophone while he was a student at Northcote College. After graduating, he studied Jazz Performance at the New Zealand School of Music, where he graduated with a Bachelor of Music degree with First Class Honours. He also competed at the 2009 New Zealand Youth Jazz Competition, where he was awarded the trophy for the “Most Outstanding Young Musician”. Alex has been performing professionally at various festivals since high school, including the prestigious Monterey Jazz Festival in the United States, and the Manly Jazz Festival in Sydney, Australia. Jared Sims

JARED SIMS performs on all of the saxophones as well as clarinet and flute. He has toured throughout the United States and in Europe, South America, Asia and India. Sims has performed live with an array of artists that include Han Bennink, Cecil McBee, Bob Brookmeyer, Stefon Harris, Landau Eugene Murphy, Temptations, Four Tops, Melvin Sparks, Soulive, Oteil Burbridge (Allman Brothers), DJ Logic, Kiddus I, Matisyahu, the 10,000 Maniacs, and Noel Gallagher (Oasis). Sims has also performed with large ensembles such as the Rhode Island Philharmonic, the Artie Shaw Orchestra, and the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra. He has been involved in jazz recording projects with Antonio Sanchez, Dave Liebman, Anat Cohen, Cecil McBee, and Matt Wilson. Sims has performed at Montreal Jazz Festival, Cleveland'sTri-C Jazz Festival, Flint (Michigan) Jazz Festival, Beantown Jazz Festival (Boston), New Haven (Connecticut) Jazz Festival, Quito Jazz Festival (Ecuador), Telluride (Colorado) Jazz Festival, and Northsea Jazz Festival in the Netherlands. Sims has appeared on more than 40 different recordings crossing multiple genres. His jazz recordings include Change of Address (2017 on Ropeadope Records) Layers (2016), The New Stablemates (2012 on Arabesque Records), Convergence (released in 2011), and Acoustic Shadow (released in 2009). He other recorded work includes music for theme parks, television commercials, and video games. Sims has performed on three recordings that were awarded four stars in DownBeat Magazine – Blueprint Project featuring Cecil McBee and Matt Wilson, People I Like with Han Bennink, and the Dead Cat Bounce recording Home Speaks to the Wandering. Sims has been an adjudicator and directed All State bands in several states. He has given clinics and master classes at the U.S. Navy International Saxophone Symposium, Cornell University, New Hampshire All State, Emerson College, the U.S. Navy Base in Norfolk, Universidad San Francisco De Quito (Ecuador), Boston Day and Evening Academy, Maine All-State Jazz Festival, and St. Francis Xavier University (Nova Scotia, Canada).

Mark Allen

Mark Allen hails from Wilkes-Barre, Pennsylvania, but has lived and worked in the Philadelphia area for the last six years. Mark is currently on the saxophone faculty at the University of the Arts, where he has also completed a Master's Degree in Woodwind Performance. He has had the privilege of studying with Joel Frahm, Ben Schachter, Chris Farr, and Ron Kerber. In addition to co-leading several ensembles, Mark is an active member of The Norman David Eleventet, the Captain Black Big Band, and several other Philadelphia/New York ensembles. He has shared the stage with jazz luminaries such as George Garzone, Marcus Belgrave, Wycliffe Gordon, Dick Oatts, Orrin Evans, Frank Lacy, and Tim Hagans, among others

John Guida

John Guida is a South Jersey native who grew up in a musical family. It was this early exposure that instilled John’s lifelong passion for music, His musical career began when he played on the Steel Pier while still in high school. Later he toured the country with the Jimmy Dorsey Orchestra and then returned to the Atlantic City music scene where he played at the 500 Club, Club Harlem, and with the Ice Capades Orchestra. John was a charter member of the Si Zentner Orchestra at Resorts International, the first casino to open in New Jersey. He has also played with other big bands including Harry James, Mercer Ellington, Ray Anthony, and Billy May. John has performed with many of the musical legends of our time, including Frank Sinatra, Tony Bennett, Diana Ross, Tina Turner, Ella Fitzgerald, Rosemary Clooney, Mel Torme, Ray Charles, Aretha Franklin, Diane Carrol, Nancy Wilson, Harry Connick, Jr., Natalie Cole, The Temptations, Lady Gaga, and many others

Mike Hamilton

Mike Hamilton Bio www.mikehamilton.net Mike Hamilton was born in Fort Hood TX. to a father who was in the military, Hamilton spent much of his childhood growing up in different parts of the world, in places as far as Germany to as close as Georgia. As soon as he began studying saxophone, which his father chose for him he has never parted from making music his life. Even as early as grade school, he was consistently voted the Most Promising Music Student.
