Cath Roberts

Cath Roberts’ work explores free improvisation, composition and the music at their meeting point. Her primary outlet as a composer and improviser on baritone saxophone is the quintet Sloth Racket, which has toured widely and released several albums. She leads ten piece improvising ensemble Favourite Animals, and has a long-standing duo with guitarist Anton Hunter, Ripsaw Catfish. As bandmate, Cath is a member of Madwort Sax Quartet, Vole, Article XI and Alex Ward’s Item 10 amongst other groups. She co-runs LUME with Dee Byrne, producing concerts, tours and festivals since 2013 and releasing music on an offshoot label, Luminous

Sam Reed
Born:
Sam Reed was a tenor saxophonist based in Philadelphia.
Working at the Uptown Theater in the late 1950s and early 1960s, he added jazz and rhythm & blues shows to what was at the time an R&B, blues and rock and roll venue. For some years, Reed was also musical director for Teddy Pendergrass, and in the early 1970s, he was the "horn contractor" for Gamble and Huff's Philadelphia International Records.
Bootsie Barnes, Mickey Roker and Jimmy Oliver are among the other Philadelphia-based musicians he has performed with.
In 2012, he received the Jazz Journalists Association's annual Jazz Heroes Award.

Gemma Farrell

Gemma Farrell is a jazz saxophonist, composer and educator. She is a PhD candidate and lecturer in jazz studies at WAAPA. She has led the Young Women in Jazz program for WAYJO since 2014. Gemma has a Master of Music degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam and a Bachelor of Music with Honours from the Queensland Conservatorium. In 2020 she won Best Brass, String or Woodwind Instrumentalist at the WAM awards. She has been nominated for 7 WAM awards prior including Best Brass, String or Woodwind Instrumentalist (2018, 2019), Best Jazz Act (2018, 2019), Best Funk Act (2007), Song of the Year – Jazz (2016, 2018)

Vytautas Labutis graduated in 1986 from the Vilnius Academy of Music completing a course in saxophone playing. He constantly takes part in various international “JazzBaltica Ensemble” (leaders D.Murray, N.O.Pedersen, M.Schneider, D.Bates, etc.), ”Octet Ost” (lead. Ch.Muthspiel), “Moscow Composers Orchestra”, ”New European Saxophone Quartet”, ”A.Vapirov Big Band” and Lithuanian projects - “Vilnius Jazz Quartet featuring Neda”, ”D.Pulauskas Sextet”, ”L.Šinkarenko Quartet”, ”Kaunas BigBand”, ”Lithuanian Art Orchestra”(lead.V.Tarasov),”Duo E.Kanevičius -V.Labutis”, composes and presents his original projects as a leader (V.Labutis quartet,octet -CD “Terra Vandetuja”, project “Orkestretto”,etc.)Also plays and composes for the movies,theatres and teaches saxophone and improvisation in Vilnius B.Dvarionas music school. Imraan Khan
Born:
Imraan Khan is a New York City-based saxophonist who currently performs with several different groups spanning jazz, fusion, funk, classic rock, and Latin genres. A graduate of Long Island University, Imraan holds a B.S. in Computer Science and a minor degree in Music. During his time at spent at LIU, he played lead alto and soprano sax in the jazz ensemble, jazz combo, symphonic band, and wind ensemble. He has studied with Andy Fusco (of Buddy Rich and Mel Lewis renown), T.K. Blue, and Richie Iacona. In addition to appearances with his instructors, Imraan has had the privilege of playing with James Moody, Darmon Meader, Benny Powell, Jeb Patton, Arturo O'Farrill, Mike Carubia, Richie Cannata and many more. Imraan has had the pleasure of appearing at many venues in NYC and abroad, such as the Lenox Lounge, the American Museum of Natural History, Iridium and the Zinc Bar, as well as showcases like the Montreaux Jazz Festival in Geneva, Switzerland and Jazz a Vienne in Juan Les Pins, France

Shlomi Cohen
Born:
Grammy-nominated saxophonist Shlomi Cohen, born in Tel Aviv, Israel, has had a multicultural musical education, based in part on his surroundings both in Tel Aviv and New York City, and also from his Moroccan and Yemeni heritage. This mix of styles in his sound has made him a much sought-after saxophonist. Shlomi was part of the Grammy-nominated album "Frutero Moderno" by Gonzalo Grau & La Clave Secreta. He is part of a special collaboration with Colombian Harpist Edmar Castaneda, bringing this incredible and unique form of music to the world. As an integral part of the horn section Shlomi is playing with the Bernie Worrell Orchestra (founding member of Parliament-Funkadelic). Shlomi is based in New York City and regularly collaborates with various musical projects around the city and beyond.
