Paul Bomar

Inspired by musically-adept family, Paul Bomar started his musical journey at the age of 13 by picking up a used beginner guitar and learning a few rock tunes. Upon receiving a dubbed copy of Miles Davis's "'Round About Midnight" at the age of 16, he developed a love for jazz that has only grown in the years since. After playing in several funk and rock bands, Paul set out to share his passion for jazz with the Raleigh-Durham area and performed with his own groups and other jazz combos, as well as working as a session musician for numerous performers in the area. Paul plays, as described by others, "tastefully, economically, tunefully, swinging", drawing from traditional influences such as Kenny Burrell and Jim Hall as well as more recent players such as Ed Bickert and Peter Bernstein. Paul has numerous studio and live albums under his belt

Says one Carolina newbie to one Carolina native, “Dang! I knew it would be hot in the Summer down here, but I had no idea that it would get even hotter at night!!” Meteorologically speaking, there is a scientific explanation for this phenomenon. But as far as the Raleigh-based exploratory jazz trio called The Hot at Nights, there is no explanation for them. 8-string guitar virtuoso Chris Boerner leads the group, with Matt Douglas on sax/woodwinds and Nick Baglio on drums. The group melted together in Boerner’s studio over the many sweltering evenings of Summer, 2010. Though largely improvisational, the group’s compositions pull from contemporary songwriters, classic funk, pop, rock, and of course the electric avant garde stylings that have spanned the last 30 years of contemporary jazz

Kit Watkins

BORN TO CLASSICAL PIANO TEACHERS in 1953 in Virginia, Kit Watkins studied piano at home from ages 5 through 13. During his teen years, Kit was drawn to rock music and became a driving force behind a series of local bands, playing organ, synthesizer, and flute, as well as singing lead. By age 18, he was discovering his own writing abilities. He soon joined up with the band Happy The Man (HTM) which was forming at the local university. It was with HTM that Kit honed his skills in composing, performing, arranging, and producing. During its original six years, the band recorded five albums, including two produced by Ken Scott and released on Arista Records

Kobie Watkins

Watkins, who has three brothers and four sisters, was born in Chicago on July 26, 1975. His interest in music was sparked at around age three when he first saw his father playing drums at a local Apostolic Overcoming Holy Church of God. Prior to devoting himself to religion, Alious C. Watkins Jr. had played trap drums and other percussion instruments with the Pharaohs, a now-legendary jazz-funk group in which Earth, Wind & Fire leader Maurice White had been the original drummer, and he also backed the Dells on local engagements. His dad’s drumming led Kobie and his brothers to bang on pots and pans around the house

Born in Durham, N.C., Grady Tate began singing at age four and he began playing drums at age five. For the past three decades his distinctive sound has graced literally hundreds of recordings with world-renowned artists such as Quincy Jones, Jimmy Smith, Lionel Hampton, Stan Getz, Pearl Bailey, Tony Bennett, Ella Fitzgerald, Aretha Franklin, Lena Horne, Peggy Lee, Della Reese, Sarah Vaughan, Michael LeGrand, Lalo Schrifin, and Andre Previn. He graduated from North Carolina Central University with a degree in English literature/drama and a minor in Psychology. He taught English and Speech in Washington, DC, but his desire to pursue an acting career lead him to New York City and the American Academy of Dramatic Arts

ROBBIE LINK is a performer and teacher on the double bass, cello, electric bass, viola da gamba, and violone. Link performs and records with many period instrument, chamber, jazz, and folk music ensembles and enjoys performing everything from Baroque to Bluegrass. He maintains a private teaching studio near Chapel Hill, NC. Link studied jazz with David Baker and classical bass with Murray Grodner in the School of Music at Indiana University in Bloomington, Indiana and also studied at the North Carolina School of the Arts in Winston-Salem, North Carolina. He has performed with The Bach Sinfonia, North Carolina Symphony, Richmond Symphony, Louisville Symphony, Ensemble Vermillian, and Ensemble Courant as well as with many jazz notables including Maxine Sullivan, Tal Farlow, Mose Alison, Mark Murphy, Carol Sloane, Margaret Whiting, Bobby Enriquez, Joanne Brackeen, and Scott Hamilton.

Guitarist Kevin Golden has been playing jazz for over 29 years in the Hudson Valley and greater NYC area. His style is influenced by Grant Green, Rene Thomas, and Joshua Breakstone. He has studied with Joshua Breakstone, Peter Leitch, John Scofield, and Sal Salvador. Kevin's first recording as a leader, "Pelham Parkway" has been released and available for digital download. The session was recorded along with the musical collaboration and contributions of Akiko Tsuruga on Hammond B3 organ and Peter Grant on drums, at Tedesco Studios in Paramus NJ. Seven original tunes penned by Golden pay homage to the legendary organ trio sounds of Grant Green, Kenny Burrell, and Wes Montgomery (san octaves).
