Jan Kaspersen Pianist, composer, arranger, and bandleader Born 22 April 1948 in Copenhagen. Studied piano with Duke Jordan, Kjell Olson, and Herman D. Koppel, and jazz theory with George Russell. Study trips to The Gambia, West Africa, in 1983 and 1985. Active on the jazz scene since 1969, primarily in Denmark, but also in Greenland, Sweden, Norway, Finland, Germany, France, Italy, Spain, the USA, and Russia. Awarded DJBFA's composer prize in 1987, the JASA prize in 1988, Statens Kunstfonds 3-year work grant in 1993 and lifelong grant from 1998. Kaspersen has played with such groups as "Blue Sun" 1969-72, "Alif" 1976-78, and "Nada" 1978-80

Larry Porter
Born:
Larry Porter is an adept in the music of both East and West. As a jazz pianist, his playing pays homage to the history of the music, from ragtime through post-bop and into the future. As a rebab player, Porter has been hailed as "...without a doubt one of the best of his generation" by the US-based Afghan magazine, Lemar-Aftaab (http://www.afghanmagazine.com/april2000/music/larry/index.html). In both spheres Porter's compositions, renditions, and improvisations portray multi-dimensional visionary soundscapes conveying the depth and breadth of emotions that encompass the human experience. He is also involved in projects integrating aspects of jazz and other Western music forms with Afghan, Central Asian, and Indian music.

Martin Pickett

Born in 1969, Martin's love of music took shape in his early teens, writing songs and playing guitar. He studied classical guitar through to Bristol University, while having piano as a second instrument and exploring compositional approaches. After University he took a PGCE in secondary music education and then moved to Oxford to teach music in a secondary school. It was at this time that his interest in jazz piano dominated his musical activities. In 1998 Martin left his teaching post to work as a freelance jazz pianist and teacher. Since this time he has worked in a variety of settings and worked with a wide array of Britain's most talented musicians. He has recorded his own CD I'll Be With You Again in 2005 and played on albums by Diane Nalini, Tim Wilson, 3BPM, and Frank Hockney

Jimmy Gray

Gray began studying piano in high school at Caddo Magnet High, a school in shreveport,louisiana strongly oriented towards the arts having produced some great musicians such as Kenny Wayne Shephard and Brian Blade. After a long hiatus he began experimenting with the written arts and after struggling with a novel length work and dabbling in performance poetry while studying medicine in New Orleans Louisiana he began his new relationship with sound and the performing arts while in professional school. Unsatisfied with simply mixing sounds with electronic media he picked up his axe again after being inspired by avant garde jazz musican Marzette Watts whom he met before his death while in medical school

Giovanni Mirabassi
Italian pianist and composer, born in Perugia in 1970. He starts playing the piano at the age of three and gets interested in jazz at ten. Xavier Thollard
Born:
Xavier Thollard was born in 1982, and started to learn music at the age of 9 in the Rennes Conservatory of Music in France. After percussions and classical piano studies, he decided to learn jazz, and had piano-jazz lessons in a district school. He especially learned in contact with other musicians, playing in many formations, and having jazz training courses (like Marciac’s in 2001). Since he moved to Paris in 2002, Xavier Thollard has led several musical projects and collaborated with many musicians, in particular by playing with the Big Band des Universités de Paris, which was created in 2004 by Thierry Lalo, and playing in duet with french harmonica player Yvonnick Prené. His first CD trio as a leader « Prime Times », released in 2008, was selected as “young talent” by the french music store FNAC
