Emmet Cohen

Multifaceted American jazz pianist and composer Emmet Cohen is in the vanguard of his generation's advancement of music and the related arts. A recognized prodigy, Cohen began Suzuki method piano instruction at age three, and his playing quickly became a mature melding of musicality, technique, and concept. Downbeat observed that his "nimble touch, measured stride and warm harmonic vocabulary indicate he's above any convoluted technical showmanship." Cohen notes that performing jazz is "about communicating the deepest levels of humanity and individuality; it's essentially about connections," both among musicians and with audiences. He leads his namesake ensemble, the "Emmet Cohen Trio," is a vibrant solo performer, and is in constant demand as a sideman. Possessing a fluid technique, an innovative tonal palette, and an extensive repertoire, Cohen plays with the command and passion of an artist fully devoted to his medium.

Marcos Silva

Multi-instrumentalist, composer, arranger and educator Marcos Silva performs worldwide. Nominated for a Grammy, he has toured with many world-renowned artists, including Paquito D’Rivera, Bud Shank, Dori Caymmi, and many others. He was musical director for Flora Purim and Airto Moreira for 23 years. Marcos has written arrangements for Dizzy Gillespie’s band and replaced Gil Evans as arranger-composer of Airto’s Spiritual Mass in Germany. He is sought after as a producer of CDs, including two of his own. Marcos heads the Brazilian Music Department at the California Jazz Conservatory in Berkeley.

Carolina Calvache

Colombian jazz and classical pianist Carolina Calvache, is part of the new generation of pianist and composers whose style blends South American rhythms with a contemporary New York sound. Her participation in 2011 Mary Lou Williams woman in jazz festival for outstanding artists, brought the attention of the North East audiences. Legendary pianist Toshiko Akiyoshi described her music as “Marvelous”. Carolina lives in NYC becoming part of the jazz scene. She has performed with John Benitez, Samuel Torres, Ludwig Alfonso, Ross Pederson, Armando Gola among others. She is working in her album of all original compositions that embraces Latin American flavors including her Colombian folk rhythms, Cuban, and Peruvian music as well

Ian Kane

Born:
Ian Kane ...is a Pittsburgh-based jazz pianist, Tin Pan Alley composer, arranger, crooner, and founder of The Blue-hots. He began playing stride and boogie-woogie piano (“boogie-stride”) professionally in New Orleans in the summer of 1993. There he assembled an extensive repertoire of pre-war popular songs (1900-1945) which he then performed in Boston, along with his own growing book of tunes. In 2000 he moved to New York City. There he performed both general business and artistic gigs at top Manhattan spots like the Knitting Factory, The Slipper Room, The Marquee, and The Cutting Room. His other musical projects, from electronic music to chamber music, grew out of his years at Oberlin Conservatory where he was classically trained as a composer

Joachim Mencel

Joachim Mencel – pianist, lyricist (hurdy-gurdy player), composer, music producer, PhD – assistant professor at the Academy of Music in Krakow, decorated with, among others Silver Cross of Merit and Bronze Medal for Merit to Culture Gloria Artis, called the “romantic of Polish jazz pianism” He graduated from the Jazz and Popular Music Department of the Music Academy in Katowice. He played, among others in the bands of Janusz Muniak (CD “Contemplation”), Andrzej Cudzich (CD “Simple Way”) and Nigel Kennedy. He regularly cooperates with the American clarinettist Brad Terrym (albums “All about spring”, “Colorado”, “Live in Fort Andross”)
