Bex Burch is percussionist and composer, specialising in the Dagaare xylophone or Gyil. Following a series of chance encounters and a keen interest in groove based music / minimalism Burch was invited to be the apprentice to master Ghanaian xylophonist Thomas Segkura and lived in Dagaare Ghana making and playing Gyilli for 3 years. On passing out of the apprenticeship, she was given the name ‘Vula Viel’, meaning Good is Good and shared the name with her own group on returning to the UK where she continues to forge her own unique sound.

Louis Romanos

Louis Romanos studied percussion under Idris Muhammad, Johnny Vidacovich and Art Perretta. At nineteen he moved from Connecticut to go to the birthplace of Jazz, New Orleans, to study music and philosophy. Louis has since performed and recorded with a number of renowned musicians including Tommy James (Director of the Duke Ellington Orchestra), Gene Bertoncini, Steve Masakowski, Chuck Leavell, Keith Richards, John Mayer, Charles and Cyril Neville, Al Hirt, Dave Easley of Brian Blade’s Fellowship Band, Charlie Miller of Dr. John’s band, Jazz Legend Earl Turbinton, Tricia Boutte, Marva Wright and Dave Anderson of the Louisiana Philharmonic and many, many more. As a Composer, Louis writes for live bands, dance, TV, video games, indie movies and commercials. His band, Permagrin, released three albums co written with Dan Sumner. Permagrin performed in SXSW music conference, the NOW music festival, the New Orleans Jazz Fest, the Indy Jazz Fest, the Boom Boom Room in San Francisco, and were nominated for best electronica band in New Orleans in 2005 Big Easy Awards. Permagrin licensed Classical to the documentary movie, Plane Spotting. Louis’s commissioned works include 5 works for the Confederacy of Dances performance in New Orleans at the Contemporary Arts Center, Take Me There, for the University of Monroe guitar ensemble and a piece for Mirari Brass Quintet. Louis wrote Light Waves for visual artist and Chicago producer, Nancy Bechtol, and together they have a work on Culture T.V. Louis also composed about a dozen pieces for C-E-N-T-E-R, a collaborative project between visual artists and composers, in Los Angeles, California. Additionally, his composition, Tyco at the Gates was licensed to the major motion picture, Cool It. Recent credits include a dystopian futuristic score for the short movie, Odessa, an action score for Fira’s Game, and an uplifting score for feature documentary, Pink and Blue: the colors of hereditary cancer. Louis has also scored live theater (The Bakkhai), video games (The Dark Ages of Titan, Corpse Wagon), the modern ballet (Interior Borders by choreographer, Joan Buttram, at University of Georgia) and recording drums on the new theme song for the Squidbillies on Cartoon network. Thomas Guei

Thomas Guei was born and grew up in Cote d’ivoire. He is the son of an artist family (musicians and dancers). His primary interest in drums made him attend very early the best art school in Cote d’Ivoire, EDEC (School of Dance and Cultural Exchange). He became the lead drummer, then the artistic director of Les Guirivoires Dance Company, founded and directed by Rose Marie Guiraud. He has gained international acclaim. His strenuous work led him to France, where he was the lead drummer for the following companies : Georges Momboye, Merlin Nyakam and Serge Dupont- Tsakap. Chris Kuborn

Long time Jazz Lover, Radio Broadcaster and Composer, Chris Kuborn has been involved with music and broadcasting for most of his life. Whether he was subjecting his family to recorded “broadcasts” from the bedroom as a kid or working through college at WRST, WBLV and WOUB or podcasting “Pan In Harmony” the only Steel Drum music podcast to date; Chris has always enjoyed “bringing the music to the masses”. Chris holds a MM from Ohio University in Music Composition and a BM in Music from Univ WI – Oshkosh. Corey Cook is perhaps, yet humbly, among the brightest emerging musicians in America today. Cook has held affiliation with national organizations such as The Percussive Arts Society, The American Federation of Musicians (Local 802), and The National Academy of Recording Arts and Sciences. Corey has collaborated with alumni of ensembles such as The Jazz at Lincoln Center, Jon Faddis, Thad Jones/Mel Lewis, Buddy Rich, & Woody Herman Orchestras. Corey's first mentor was booking-agent Ashwood Kavanna, whose clients have included Miles Davis, James Brown, Jimi Hendrix, and many others. Cook has received honorary nominations to attend The National Young Leaders Conference, The Global Young Leaders Conference, The International Scholar Laureate Program (ISLP) Delegation on Diplomacy & International Relations, The 51st Annual GRAMMY Awards, and The Presidential Inauguration.
