Nic Cacioppo

New York City based drummer and composer Nic Cacioppo has been described by Downbeat Magazine as “a fascinating drummer” who “goes hard”. Originally from the greater Philadelphia area, and the son of two Classical musicians, Nic started playing drums professionally as a teenager in Philly and South Jersey. During this time he was fortunate to have a diverse mixture of formative musical experiences with a variety of people and musical situations. Since migrating to New Jersey over a decade ago, Cacioppo has had the distinct honor of working with world class musicians including Slide Hampton, Johnny O’Neal, Gene Perla, Tyshawn Sorey, Wallace Roney, and David Murray, and has been a member of the JD Allen trio for over a year now. Cacioppo has recorded as a sideman on record labels including HighNote-Savant Records and PM Records and has performed at venues including Blue Note (NYC), North Sea Jazz Festival (Rotterdam, Netherlands), Duc Des Lombards (Paris, France), Smoke Jazz Club (NYC), Ravinia Festival (Illinois), Birdland (NYC), Jazz Standard (NYC), Chicago Jazz Festival, Smalls Jazz Club (NYC)

JD Allen: Barracoon

Read "Barracoon" reviewed by Mackenzie Horne

It would be demeaning to only refer to the piece as a great exemplar of post-bop production. This record is more important than that; not only is it significant in terms of Allen's artistic development, ...
