SOLDANO DIECI ANNI So here we are. Two guitarist who never played together and yet we decide to record an album. How does that work? I knew who Jack DeSalvo was because he put out The Bird The Girl and The Donkey II on his Unseen Rain record label, but I really didn’t know him as a guitarist till he said, “We should record together.” Immediately I went to YouTube and found him. Wow - what a player! I emailed and said don’t you think we should get together and play at least once? He agreed and came over and we played mostly free, but then I took out some of my straight ahead tunes and the magic began

Musician

Common Quartet

Common Quartet began as a band of friends in Brooklyn, hosting a weekly jam session in the culturally vibrant neighborhood of Bed-Stuy. Coming together every Monday to workshop original music and host the jam session has been a unifying ritual for the band and its audience. Their freshman release, "The Hive", featuring Steve Cardenas, is a product of that ritual, and a mile marker in a creative process that continues to evolve and flourish. The album title, "The Hive", is no accident. The music conveys an energetic and collective effort. The compositions are extremely varied in their style and mood, combining standards and lyrical original compositions in a modern presentation of the jazz tradition

Musician

Sergio Pereira

Born:

Born in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I started playing acoustic guitar (violao) at the age of 8 years old, influenced by my older brother who played the guitar and helped me with my first chords. I have also been influenced by the music of bossa- nova giants at the time such as Joao Gilberto, Tom Jobim, Carlos Lyra, Joao Donato, Marcus Valle and many more. Growing up in Rio in the 60’s and 70’s has contributed tremendously to the energy, groove and rhythms reflected in my music today.

Moving to New York in the 80’s has motivated me to, not only continuing playing the guitar, but to further enhance my knowledge of music and the guitar itself, hence I started to study with some of the jazz greats including Chuck Wayne, Sal Salvador, Alex Adrian, Hui Cox and Joe Carter. Since the beginning of the 90’s I have been travelling the world, playing with different bands and at various venues in many different countries in Europe, Africa and elsewhere.
