KÓSMOS

The trio composed by pianist Stefano Falcone, drummer Giuseppe D’Alessandro and bass player Ilaria Capalbo outlines an idea of music that is eloquent and purpose-driven, originating from the band’s cohesive sound and strong creative urgency. A fearless attitude to improvisation and extemporary practices together with grounded composition work make up for a bold sound that strikes as being equally fresh in approach and rooted in the idioms of jazz tradition and classical European music. The personalities of the band members, who have been collaborating in other projects for the last few years, are different yet complementary: Falcone’s intellectual, narrative piano playing is met by Capalbo’s expressive intensity and keen sense of melody while D’Alessandro’s chiseled, sensitive drumming brings to the foreground the propulsive force and rhythmic variety of this ensemble. The first recorded work of the trio is a concept album dedicated and inspired by the life and vision of jazz pianist Lennie Tristano, which includes elaborations and arrangements of some of his tunes as well as original compositions by all band members.
