Coming from a family surrounded by music and musicians, Stéphane Mercier studied different instruments early on before focusing on the saxophone and the flute, composition and arrangement. After studying at Berklee College of Music in the mid-90’s, he intensively toured with Mark Turner, Seamus Blake, B.Connection, Exile Society...then moved to Brooklyn, NY (95-02), where he played and/or recorded with a.o. Aaron Goldberg, Chris Cheek, Avishai Cohen, Randy Brecker, Jeff Ballard, Ingrid Jensen, Matt Penman,… Stéphane moved to Paris for a couple of years before Brussels, where he currently resides

Facing West

It all began with a podcast. Tenor saxophonist and pedagogue Donnie Norton received a call from his old friend, Doug Stone to appear on Stone’s podcast. Stone, a tenor saxophonist and educator himself, runs a program focused on all things tenor saxophone entitled “Tenor Talk” and saw Norton as a perfect fit for the program on an episode in 2020. Following the podcast, the saxophonists began talking about their mutual connections, both from school and life, and soon the names of drummer Brian Claxton and bassist Braun Khan came up. “All of the members knew each other and had played with each other in various other walks of life,” Norton says, “but the four of us had never played together as a unit.” That quickly changed as the four went from a group of friends to a powerful quartet, creating original music that pays homage to the freedom of expression found in the great chordless jazz ensembles of the past.

Rafael Zaldivar

When JUNO Nominee Rafael Zaldivar sits down at the piano, he brings a wealth of inspiration to the keys: his compositions display his percussion expertise, his many years of collaborating with top jazz musicians, and his cultural heritage. Born in Camagüey, Cuba, Zaldivar is carrying on a rich family legacy of musicianship. After taking up percussion and piano at a young age, Zaldivar pursued his studies at the Higher Institute of Arts in Havana. Jazz singer Vicki Burns is the complete package. With her three-octave range, sure sense of rhythm, and perfect intonation, she can scat convincingly, swing like a horn, and write hip songs worthy of attention from other vocalists.

She has produced three CDs as a leader: Siren Song (2005), Live at Anna’s Jazz Island (2008), and her 2022 release Lotus Blossom Days.  Jazz writer Marc Myers said, "Vicki's voice on Lotus Blossom Days is warm and round, sophisticated and optimistic with shades of blue. She also takes terrific risks that pay off.” 

Wesley Amorim

​​ ​Versatile Music Producer, Composer and Latin Grammy nominated Guitarist. Resilient and resourceful character with 18 years of performance history. Skilled at areas such as music and executive production, session musician, arrangement, film and media composition. At 17, he began playing and recording professionally using a wide range of music genres, from Brazilian to jazz, rock, pop, and gospel. He has performed in Broadway musicals, including Jesus Christ Superstar and The Lion King, and with countless artists. Amorim moved to the US in 2014 and has since shared the stage and/or recorded with renowned artists, including Alcione, Cyro Baptista, Luciana Mello, Neguinho da Beija-Flor, Jair Oliveira, Oriente Lopez, and others. He has performed at Carnegie Hall, Birdland, Blue Note, Joe's Pub, The Metropolitan Room, the DiMenna Center, Club Bonafide, and many others. In 2019 Amorim released his first duo album, "Simas & Amorim Duo - 'Deuce' with the pianist Luiz Simas to the acclaim of Creed Taylor and Antonio Adolfo. ​Wesley performed on the album ‘Selfie’ by the artist Jair Oliveira, nominated for the 2019 Latin Grammy Award for Best Portuguese Language Contemporary Pop Album. His last album, 'From Home' released in november of 2020, is a duo with the guitarist Rafael Borges Amaral

Marcello Carelli

Born: October 2, 1999

Marcello Carelli, 22 years old, is one of the most versatile musicians on the music scene today. Originally from Bedford Hills, New York, Carelli is a currently getting his master's degree in Jazz Studies at the University of Southern California's Thornton School of Music. He received his undergraduate degree in Studio Music and Jazz at the University of Miami's Frost School of Music. Marcello is a former Stamps Distinguished Ensemble Scholar, having been chosen out of many applicants to play in a high profile jazz quintet for four years. Along with this group, Carelli has also played in the award-winning Frost Concert Jazz Band and the Brian Lynch Artist Ensemble

Marco Bianchi "Vibes"

ENGLISH Marco Bianchi "Vibes" is considered one of the most important and eclectic musicians of his generation. Born in 1980, jazz vibraphonist, composer, arranger, graduated in "Percussion Instruments" at the age of 19 at the "G. Verdi" Conservatory of Como, he collaborated with classical / contemporary music orchestras until the early 2000s, but for now many years he devoted himself exclusively to Jazz collaborating with musicians such as Roberto Gatto, Gunter Sommer, Engelbert Wrobel, Gianni Basso, Andrea Pozza, Alfredo Ferrario, Michel Godard, Andrea Braido, Gianni Cazzola, Sandro Gibellini, Maxx Furian, Riccardo Fioravanti and many others .
