Maja Alvanović

Born:

The Majamisty TriO’s music synthesizes classical and jazz elements, and judging by audience reaction it’s a refreshing addition to the jazz music scene. The cooperation of pianist Maja Alvanović, leader of the trio, with the fantastic musicianship of Ištvan Čik (drums and percussion), Ervin Malina, (double bass) and Aleksandra Drobac Čik (guest vocalist) gives wings to this idea and brings it to full fruition. The appierence of Majamisty TriO in 2010 was followed by concerts in Studio ‘1’ of Radio Novi Sad within ‘Jazz Appreciation Month’ organized by the American Corner, also the 26th Jazz Festival in Valjevo and IX International Jazz & Blues festival Geza Balaz Gari in Kikinda, as well as several clubs in Novi Sad. Their first album ‘Mistyland’ with twelve tracks (eleven originals and the cover of jazz standard ‘Misty’ by Errol Garner) invites lovers of new jazz sound in the walk through the wideness of Mistyland, imaginary world of acoustic paintings. Maja Alvanović: Wind Rose

Read "Wind Rose" reviewed by Hrayr Attarian

The composer and pianist Maja Alvanovic forges her unique sound out of the complex rhythms and the poetry of her native Serbia and Jazz's effervescent spontaneity. She is also a superb bandleader as her Majamisty trio, with fellow Serbians bassist Ervin Malina, and drummer Lav Kovač, performs with vibrant fluidity. The ensemble's fifth release, ...

Majamisty Trio: Wind Rose

Read "Wind Rose" reviewed by Chris May

The Serbian pianist Maja Alvanović and her trio won widespread acclaim in 2020 for Organic (Majamisty), with All About Jazz and The New York Times among early champions of the album. An ineffably beautiful disc, it drove some writers towards the rocks of hyperbole as surely as the Sirens of Greek mythology wrecked besotted seafarers.

Majamisty Trio: Organic

Serbian pianist Maja Alvanović is an imaginative composer and a virtuoso performer who, for the past decade, has created uniquely enchanting music. On past releases Alvanović seamlessly fused western classical techniques with exciting improvisation and created ethereal impressionistic originals. Her third release Organic finds Alanović with her Majamisty Trio, in a more introspective mood as they ...

Majamisty TriO: Love

Read "Love" reviewed by Hrayr Attarian

Serbian pianist and composer Maja Alvanovic's second release with her Majamisty TriO Love is a collection of ethereal dreamscapes that crackle with lively spontaneity. The dominant and unifying theme of the album is a sort of nostalgic impressionism with fluid, hazy sonic images filtered through the lens of memory and time. The redolent “Rain ...
