Jeff Darrohn

Born: April 24, 1960

Born in Hampton Virginia, Jeff grew up near Philadelphia, Pennsylvania. In Philadelphia Jeff studied music at The Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts(now called University of the Arts) and received his Bachelor in Music and Music Education with a Jazz Minor. At The Philadelphia College of the Performing Arts he studied saxophone with William Zaccagni, flute with Adeline Tomasone, jazz theory with Larry McKenna and arranging/composition with Evan Solot. In ‘Philly’ Jeff pursued a career as a free-lance saxophonist both in the classical and jazz worlds. Being a woodwind doubler he was active in the theatres, supper clubs, cabarets, jazz clubs and recording studios in the Tri-State Area(Pennsylvania, New Jersey and Delaware), Baltimore, Washington D.C

Adam Bishop

Born: July 24, 1974

Born in England in 1974, Adam was raised in Canberra, Australia. He studied Jazz Performance at the Canberra School of Music receiving a Bachelor of Music there in 1995. His studies have also included time in New York with Ralph Alessi, Mark Turner, Mark Helias and Barry Harris. Starting on tenor saxophone, he was originally inspired by bebop and straight-ahead jazz. His interest was soon piqued however by contemporary innovators including Steve Coleman and Dave Holland and he made a study of their music. Arriving in London in early 1998 he quickly became involved with many of the finest musicians in London also adding soprano saxophone and bass clarinet to his repertoire. Adam has performed and recorded as a sideman with: Tomorrow's Warriors, Polar Bear, Jazz Jamaica All Stars, Larry Bartley Septet, Sheron Wray’s Jazz Xchange, Stefano Kalonaris, Roberto Pla's Latin Jazz Ensemble, the London Jazz Orchestra, Synergy, Jonathan Bratoëff Quintet, NYJO, The Mike Nock Quintet, The Rat Pack Orchestra and the RTE Concert Orchestra and Big Band.

Jason Lyon

Born: November 27, 1968

The Jason Lyon Quartet (pianist Jason Lyon, tenor and alto saxophonist Ian Bailey, drummer Sophie Alloway and bassist Alan Gibson) performs a hard swinging and unconventional repertoire spanning contemporary bop, Latin, funk and township. The group is influenced by modern post-bop artists such as Chick Corea, Michael Brecker, Kenny Garrett and Branford Marsalis. Jason's classical piano concerto was premiered in Vidin, Bulgaria in September 2010.

Aaron Liddard

Born: May 15, 1973

Born and raised in rural Hertfordshire, the son of liberal and creative parents, Aaron Liddard’s initial foray in to the world of music came via one of the most eccentric of instruments, the tuba. From this unusual starting point and via brief dalliances with both the piano and guitar, he settled on the saxophone, discovering a natural affinity with his chosen instrument that would influence his existence to the present day, taking him on a truly varied and fascinating voyage of discovery. 



Receiving school music lessons from the classical composer Nicholas Sackman and renowned choral director Dr Charlie Beale provided an initial enthusiasm, but it was Liddard’s discovery of the Buntingford Jazz Club that truly ignited a spark, absorbing the intricate and dexterous guitar playing of Jim Mullen and the mellifluous tones of Alan Skidmore on sax. It was at this club that Liddard improvised for the very first time, in front of his newly discovered heroes.

Kate Williams

Jazz pianist/composer Kate Williams was born in London into a musical family (her father is the guitarist John Williams, her mother a classical pianist). A recipient of the John Dankworth Award For Talent Deserving Wider Recognition, she has gained a distinctive reputation as both a writer and performer. She has released several previous CDs, each one to critical acclaim, including Made Up (with her septet) and Smoke And Mirrors (with tenor legend Bobby Wellins). Both were in Mojo magazine's top ten jazz albums in 2011 and 2012 respectively. Kate's latest album Atlas And Vulcana is a further reflection of her colourful originality as a pianist/composer/arranger

Paul Downing

Paul studied bass guitar and composition at Leeds College Of Music and the Guildhall School Of Music & Drama.

He has worked extensively in the world of Pop, Jazz and Media Music both as a musician and composer.

His work has been released and performed all over the world and his production music has been synchronized to TV programs broadcast by numerous major channels, including the BBC, ITV, C4 & Sky.

Other credits include; Martha Reeves, Anne Clark, Mark Murphy, Cayenne, Coup D'Etat...

"With this quartet I'm aiming to explore a wide range of stylistic colours and create a broad improvisational palette, so that the soloists can feel free to stretch out. I believe strongly in melody and hold the groove to be sacred. Musical freedom and experimentation excite me and I'm always looking for new sounds and directions that work well within the genre of a contemporary jazz quartet."

Marcia Mullings

Gavin Scott

Born: February 28, 1961

Electric and acoustic bass player Gavin Scott studied on a scholarship at the prestigious Berklee College of Music in Boston MA, and became the first recipient of the Quincy Jones Award for Musicianship in 1992. Early in his career he was in the resident dance band at the Hammersmith Palais: "Cold Water Morning", which spawned musicians such as Trevor Horn and Anne Dudley. This has been followed by residencies on the QE2 and at the Monte Carlo Sporting Club, working alongside names such as Earth Wind & Fire, Liza Minnelli, Rod Stewart and Elton John, playing for many of the crowned heads of Europe, as well as celebrities from Shirley Bassey to Roger Moore

Doug McMillan

Born: May, 1990

Doug McMillan is a guitarist based in North London. He performs at venues big and small around the country in many diverse contexts. Doug has been extremely fortunate to have been taught by Dave Cliff, Mike Walker, Jez Franks, Percy Pursglove, Zsolt Bende, Mike Williams, Simon King, John Taylor, and Fred T. Baker.
