Al-Jiçç

Band created in 2007 by Gonçalo Lopes on clarinet-bass and Nuno Damião on trumpet with the purpose of creating and improvising melodies within the diversity of scales and rhythms of Mediterranean music. Initially Al- jiçç collaborated with several percussionists in rehearsals and performances and in 2011, with bassist Francisco Artur and drummer Vitor Costa, was recorded the first cd 'Mostar', named after the Bosnia-Hezergovina city. Mostar ' was well received by critics (Time Out, Jornal de Letras, radio Antena 2) and was promoted at festivals such as Andanças, Avante, Junta-te ao Jazz and at several venues in Lisbon as the MusicBox, Bacalhoeiro and Cafe Tati. In 2013, Nuno Damião wrote a set of songs inspired by the novel 'Snow ' by Orhan Pamuk, which resulted in the CD ‘Estórias de Kars’

César Cardoso

Born in 1982, in Leiria, soon dedicated his time to studying music, with only 7 years old.From 2004 to 2008 he studied at Hot Clube de Portugal’s Jazz School, where he had lessons with Jorge Reis and Pedro Moreira and started to distinguish himself as a jazz musician. In 2008 he enrolled at Escola Superior de Música de Lisboa, where he continued to work with Jorge Reis e Pedro Moreira, having completed the Jazz Bachelor Degree in saxophone performance.César is a member of the dixieland group Desbundixie, with whom he recorded “Kick’n Blow” (in 2007) e “Up 2 Nine” (in 2009), this last one with Maria João in vocals and Filipe Melo at the piano as special guests.He is the mentor and artistic director of Orquestra Jazz de Leiria, a big band which gathers Leiria’s jazz community and has given a set of concerts with Portuguese artists as special guests, such as Vânia Fernandes, David Fonseca, Maria João, Herman José, Luísa Sobral, Áurea, Tiago Bettencourt, Pedro Abrunhosa, Ana Bacalhau, Camané, Sara Tavares, António Zambujo, Jorge Palma and Simone de Oliveira.In 2010, César recorded his first debut CD, “Half Step”, with the musicians Bruno Santos, Filipe Melo, Demian Cabaud and Bruno Pedroso, his quintet at that time. The album also features Pedro Moreira as special guest and was presented at Marinha Grande’s Jazz Festival. His second album, “Bottom Shelf”, was released in 2015, in Hot Clube de Portugal, and also features original music by César, specifically written for the members of his quartet – Bruno Santos, Demian Cabaud and André Sousa Machado, some of the best Portuguese jazz musicians.He also played with many other great jazz musicians, such as João Moreira, Jorge Reis, Claus Nymark, Alexandre Frazão, Bernardo Moreira, Lars Arens, Afonso Pais, Nelson Cascais, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Julian Arguëlles, Maria João, Mário Laginha, Bernardo Sassetti, Zé Eduardo, Perico Sambeat, Rosario Giuliani, Stacey Kent, Benny Golson, John Ellis, Miguel Zenón, Joe Lovano, John Hollenbeck, Guillermo Klein and others.

Abdul Moimême

Abdul Moimême is a Lisbon based musician and active member
of the cities free improvisation scene. His main instrument
is the electric guitar.
Moimême has also worked as a jazz writer, since 1999, writing
in various Portuguese publications such as Flirt, All Jazz
and Jazz.pt magazines, as well as the Público newspaper.
Moimême has performed in several projects such as: Hipnótica,
IKB, Insub Meta Orchestra, Potlatch, Queixas, Suspensão, and
Variable Geometry Orchestra and performed and/or recorded
with musicians such as: Axel Dörner, Carlos Zingaro, Christian Weber, Christophe
Berthet, Cyril Bondi, D’Incise, Ernesto Rodrigues, Floros
Floridis, Gale Brand, George Haslam, Heddy Boubaker, Jon
Raskin, Manuel Mota, Marco von Orelli, Marco Scarassatti,
Patrick Brennan, Rodrigo Amado, Thanos Chrysakis and Wade
Matthews.
He has performed in Austria, Brazil, France, Portugal, Spain and Switzerland.

TRAPE-ZAPE

"Trape-Zape" is a portuguese group that play european instrumental music & Jazz. The group currently has the form of a quartet with acoustic and electrical guitars, keyboards, bass and percussion. The music of "Trape-Zape" presents characteristics of "contemporary jazz" in its European version, with combinations of different musical languages resulting from a vast universe of influences in a meticulous work of composition and structured improvisation where it is sometimes possible to find captivating games between tonality and atonality.

Portuguese jazz bassist and composer André Carvalho is an active NYC freelancer whose works AllAboutJazz described as “both in bounds and out of this world.” Nate Chinen of The New York Times dubbed Carvalho a bassist “you should get to know.” André has played with Jazz stars Chris Cheek, Will Vinson, and Tommy Crane. And André’s performance credits range from the Colors Jazz Festival (Paris), the Cairo Jazz Festival, and Jazz Festival Ljubliana, to venues such as Blue Note (New York), Konzerthaus Berlin, and Casa da Música (Porto). Among the awards he has received are the “Carlos Paredes 2012” (a major annual prize that celebrates Portuguese music and culture) and the “Best Group” at Bucharest International Jazz Competition 2011

Portuguese singer, songwriter and voice teacher. Was born in Luanda, followed her academic education in Lisbon and Porto, and continued her formation while traveling to California, Hawaï, Canada. Released her first album of originals, Lullaby Storm in April 2016.

Joel Silva

Born in Leiria 1982. Joel Silva started to play in rock bands. He started his classical percussions studies E.M.O.L (Escola de Música do Orfeão de Leiria) were he studied with Rui Gomes and Manuel Campos. Later he went to Jazz and had workshops with Bruno Pedroso, Alexandre Frazão, Carlos Barretto, Marc Miralta, Mark Ferber, Daniel Freedman, Mark Turner, Peter Erskine, John Riley, Dan Weiss, Donald Edwards, Ari Hoenig e Billy Hart. In 2008 he graduated in Jazz at E.S.M.A.E with the professor Michael Lauren. Joel Silva have been playing with musicians like Carlos Barretto, Maria João, Nuno Ferreira, Nelson Cascais, Matt Penman, Francesco Bearzatti, Júlio Resende, Kristin Korb, João Paulo Esteves da Silva, Will Vinson, Afonso Pais, Dave Ambrosio, Baptiste Trotignon, Franck Amsallem, Jon Irabagon, Marc Demuth, Perico Sambeat, Ole Morten Vågan, Mário Delgado, Luiz Avellar, Massimo Cavalli
