Sir Stevie: Jammin' on Stevie Wonder - Part 1

Read "Sir Stevie: Jammin' on Stevie Wonder - Part 1" reviewed by Ludovico Granvassu

Stevie Wonder has more entries in the Real Book than any other pop musician, The Beatles included. It is not surprising therefore that his Songbook has been mined by hundreds of jazz musicians, including the likes of Sonny Rollins, Dizzy Gillespie, Ella Fitzgerald, Dexter Gordon or Herbie Hancock. Angela on the Arts: Within

Read "Within" reviewed by Troy Dostert

Aside from its somewhat unusual name, Angela on the Arts brings a well-grounded sensibility to its identity as a trio specializing in free improvisation. Espousing a patient, disciplined chamber aesthetic with an occasional hint of whimsy, its debut disc Within offers almost an hour's worth of intelligent, creative music spread over sixteen well-crafted vignettes.

Lolly Allen: Coming Home

Read "Coming Home" reviewed by Jack Bowers

There was a time, and it wasn't that long ago, when women in jazz—apart from singers and the occasional pianist—were seen by many observers as unsolicited interlopers whose impact in what was essentially a male bastion could be no more than minimal at best. Needless to say that is no longer the case, as women's voices ...
