John Marley

Performing over 250 gigs a year, John Marley is one of the busiest and most in demand bass players in the UK. Since graduating from the BA (HONS) Degree in Jazz Studies at Leeds College of Music , he has worked with some of the biggest names in British and International jazz such as Julian Siegel, Stu Mccallum (Cinematic Orchestra), Kit Downes, Dennis Rollins, Alex Munk, Eddie Hick, Jamil Sheriff and Joel Purnell. John is a regular member of many bands including the Kate Peters Septet, The Hitmen and Songs of the Riding's which is led by the award winning saxophonist, Matt Anderson. He is also a respected teacher and arranger, having done arrangements for many bands and musicians across the country

Matt Anderson

Originally hailing from the North Yorkshire Moors, London-based saxophonist and Dankworth Prize-winning composer Matt Anderson's fourth album 'Live at Leeds Jazz Festival' is out in March 2024, following on from 2022's 'The Town and the City,' both with his long-running Quartet. The son of a music teacher and based in Leeds for a time, Matt moved to London in 2015 to study at the Royal Academy of Music where he now coaches Junior Jazz ensembles.

Becoming part of the fertile jazz scene in the capital, he has since performed with artists/bands such as Greg Hutchinson (with the Jiannis Pavlidis Quintet), Ivo Neame, the Gareth Lockrane and Calum Gourlay big bands, Jamie Doe’s Magic Lantern and Hannes Riepler. Rooted in a deep love and respect for the jazz tradition from Sonny Rollins to Wayne Shorter as well as various rhythmic traditions from around the world, Matt’s music also explores more pastoral, spacious and folk-influenced sounds.

James Hamilton Jazz Orchestra

The James Hamilton Jazz Orchestra was set up to play original compositions by award winning Leeds based composer James Hamilton. It started with a one off demo recording date in June 2007, the following summer they performed at 7 Arts in support of the Sleaze Orchestra and were then featured in the Leeds College of Music Autumn concert program (3rd December 2009). In May 2010 the Orchestra released their first album "The Causeway Suite" which consequently went on to win a 2010 British Composers Award and two Jazz Yorkshire awards for composer/arranger and big band of the year. Wayne Pollock

Jazz pianist Wayne Pollock studied at Leeds College of Music where he found his love for improvisation and developed his skills of harmony and composition. Among his many musical influences, Wayne cites Herbie Hancock and Chick Corea as having a dramatic effect on his playing. Musically Wayne's first love is playing live and as well as gigging extensively up and down the UK, he has also played at some of Europe's premier jazz festivals. Wayne’s skill in composition crosses many musical boundaries. As well as his Jazz trio, Wayne also writes for his other band Brothers on the Slide who’s debut album “Try” will soon be released by GLP

Tony Faulkner

Tony Faulkner is a fine musician who has built an impressive body of work over the last 35 years. He is a stylish, and much recorded, Composer and Arranger, a great drummer and one of the UK’s foremost experts on the life and work of Duke Ellington (or “Ellingtonia” as it is often termed). “Thad Jones and the Ellington Effect” is a seven part suite of pieces based on the chapters of a Masters dissertation completed some years ago by Tony in which he attempted to show how Thad Jones had been influenced by Duke Ellington both in his writing and arranging, and in the way in which he used the jazz Orchestra he co-led with drummer Mel Lewis from 1966 to 1979

Centre Line

Centre-Line are a fresh, vibrant and creative jazz group based in London that prides itself on the spontaneity, creativity and empathy among its musicians. The group is directed by Darren Altman (drums) and Russell van den Berg (sax) and as a collective, its members enthuse to maintain its essential core sound. The individual members are busy gigging on the UK Jazz scene as well as playing internationally and have played with artists including Robin Eubanks, Trilok Gurtu, Jason Rebello, Michael Cain, Marty Ehrlich, Tim Garland, Gerard Presencer, Stan Sulzmann, Kenny Wheeler, Laydysmith Black Mambazo, BBC Radio Big Band, the Rob McConnell Big Band, Carla Bley, The London Jazz Orchestra, George Martin and many more recording artists. Russell van den Berg

Russell van den Berg is an award winning British Saxophonist based in London. He is as comfortable surrounded by the likes of Kenny Wheeler, to being a regular featured soloist in UK Contemporary Big Bands or Large Ensembles. With a growing discography, including four solo albums and many as a sideman, he also continues to lead his own evolving regular groups. “Centre-Line” is his main focal group and co-lead venture with drummer Darren Altman. As well as being a foremost respected professor in the UK’s leading Jazz institute (Trinity College of Music, where he lectures and coaches), he’s also a composer and arranger and has acquired several commissions and awards. Russell has acquired many accolades of the years from critics, as well as his peers and those he continues to look up to;

Steve Parry

Steve Parry’s first official release, this two track single recorded in 2006 features a full big band line up, with one exception….. Steve plays all the instruments! Drums, Piano, Bass, Trombones, Trumpets and Saxes! If that wasn’t enough both tracks were written and arranged by Steve and recorded at his in house studio. Look out for Steve’s debut album which will be released soon. “It All Starts Here” was released by GLP in November 2006 exclusively to digital services.

Jamil Sheriff is the Curriculum Leader of the Jazz course at Leeds College of Music – the largest music student campus in the UK that offers an internationally recognised degree and masters programme with pathways in Jazz, Pop, Classical and Production. As a performer Jamil writes and makes original music. He has also enjoyed playing with artists such as Ingrid Jensen, Dave Liebman, Terell Stafford, Pete King, Henry Lowther, Gareth Lockrane, Josh Kemp, Richard Iles, Neil Yates and Colman Brothers.

Graham Young

Graham started off on the violin aged 6 quickly progressing through the grades with little effort. “I found that I could turn up and sight read everything and still be the ahead of everyone else in the lesson. I didn’t really take it seriously because the repertoire didn’t appeal and I had more fun improvising.” Later piano lessons commenced and although that instrument was to prove to have a lasting hold on Graham it was when he got his first guitar aged 13 that everything changed. “Straight away I knew that my future lay with this instrument.” An intense practice schedule ensued After leaving the Leeds of College Music Graham recorded for various bands and tours of the U.K
