Kay Benyarko was born In Ghana West Africa, and has a great love African music and Jazz and organically tries to fuse both influences when he play. He has listened and studied the history and fundamentals of both schools and counts people like Oscar Peterson , Koo Nimo, Thelonious Monk and Fela Kuti as his influences.Mostly Self taught but had he had the opportunity to study with some of the Great Jazz Masters like Barry Harris and Jonny O'neal in New York City.Kay Benyarko is also one of the hand full of musicians in the world who plays the instrument known as the seprewa which is an ancient african harp often played for african royalty.He owns his own music label senkumuzikl and has a huge youtube following.He currently lives in tulsa oklahoma and is the house pianist who the presigious Oklahoma jazz hall of fame and has played in many great venues around the midwest.
