Jon Berretta

Jon Berretta started on viola at age 7 and continued until age 17. Upon entering SUNY Plattsburgh as an environmental science major, he was turned on to jazz and funk by a friend. A year later he was playing jazz mandolin for about 8 months. At this point he heard Victor Wooten play the bass and traded his mandolin for a 4-string electric bass which became his first serious intsrument. He got a degree in jazz performance in electric bass from Five Towns College. At this point Jon was playing a lot of jazz guitar. He recieved a full-scholarship to UNLV, where he studied jazz guitar with Joe Lano and taught two guitar classes at the college
