Special Purpose

Combining vintage keyboards and lead guitar, Special Purpose blends psychedelic sounds with earthy elements of funk and jazz. The band has been playing shows in the Portland, Oregon area since 2016 with some of the best musicians in the city. Their debut instrumental album Password, written by guitarist Lance Vallis, was released in 2019 and features Paul Paresa on keyboards (Sweet n’ Juicy, Cloud 6), Hunter Parmentier on bass (Stephen Marley), and Forest Carter on drums (Far Out West, Giraffe Dodgers).

Gaetano Di Giacomo

Drummer | Composer | Educator Originally from Italy Gaetano Di Giacomo studied drums and percussion in Bologna before obtaining a degree in Drums and Music Performance from Trinity College after moving to the UK. In the early part of his career, Gaetano cut his teeth working on the jazz and pop scene travelling extensively and performing at festivals and venues in Italy, UK, Japan, Finland, USA, France, Norway, Denmark. ​ It wasn't long before Gaetano attracted the attention of the UK jazz scene's top players. Ron Carlson

Ron Carlson teaches guitar at Garden City Community College in western Kansas. For many years, he was a Kansas City based guitarist who especially enjoyed playing jazz standards. He also played guitar with a popular horn based classic rock band called Hard At Play. Ron's first CD project is titled Kind Folk in memory of the jazz artists Kenny Wheeler and Charlie Haden. Kind Folk is published by the Artists Recording Collective (ARC- 2635) and includes an all star quintet and three vocalists. The second CD project is titled For You and is dedicated to the memory of his late wife, Diane. For You contains standards as well as original compositions

Matt Finley

Born: August 17, 1951

A professional musician for over fifty-five years, multi-instrumentalist Matt Finley is a native of Lake George, New York. He graduated from Union College, where he led a combined Union/SUNY Albany/RPI Jazz Workshop to a semi-final appearance at the American College Jazz Festival and received honorable mention in the New York Times. Matt earned his master's degree from the College of Saint Rose and is permanently certified to teach music in New York State. He performed for many years with Grammy-winning baritone saxophonist Nick Brignola and was a featured trumpet soloist and arranger with the Albany Jazz Workshop

Bennett Friedman

Born: December 26, 1943

A native of Berkeley, California, Bennett Friedman is Director of Jazz Studies at SRJC, where he has taught full-time since 1977. Bennett has been a professional woodwind player for many years, performing with artists such as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, and many others. He has written commissioned works for the University of California Bands, many colleges, and the National Association of Jazz Educators. His arrangements and compositions are published by the University of Northern Colorado Press, and he is the recipient of a grant for jazz composition from the National Endowment for the Arts

Jamey Arent

Born: November 9, 1986

Jamey Arent is a guitarist, songwriter, and singer based in Los Angeles, described by Guitar Player Magazine as "a stunning player straddling blues, jazz, and rock." Born in Denver, Jamey picked up the guitar at the of age 12, when he first heard the Beatles. After completing a degree in jazz studies from the Oberlin Conservatory, he moved to Los Angeles to get a master's degree in studio/jazz guitar from USC and begin his career as a gigging musician. As a sideman, Jamey has performed and recorded with artists like Frankie Valli and the Four Seasons, Matthew Morrison, B. Slade, Spencer Day, Nigel Hall, and Raquel Rodriguez

The Beat Freaks

The Beat Freaks - a jazz quartet founded in Szczecin by guitarist Michał Starkiewicz in 2014. The musicians have many individual awards and achievements to their credit; they have collaborated and continue to collaborate with the cream of jazz musicians and beyond.

They have two studio albums to their name, "Leon" (2016) (Top Ten 2016 according to PolishJazzBlogspot journalists) and "Stay Calm" (2019). They also recorded music for the film "Zamoyski - Sculptor with a Camera," which was released digitally.

In 2018, the band made it to the top ten of "Electric Jazz Bands" as well as in the category of "New Jazz Band Hope" according to JazzForum readers. The musicians have performed on the most important jazz stages in Poland and abroad.

"The Mechanics of Nature" is the third studio album by The Beat Freaks, on which the musicians invited a special guest - American trumpeter Ralph Alessi.
 

Sergio Fulqueris

Born: July 7, 1970

Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began studying with some of the more important musician from Argentina (Walter Malossetti, Ricardo Pellican, Armando Alonso, Mateo Crespi, Ismael Spitalnik, Juan Carlos Cirigliano and Ian Guest). In Spain, he graduated as Classical Guitar Professor of the “Conservatorio Ángel Árias Maceín”, and then he earned the title of Graduate in Jazz, at the “Conservatorio Superior de Navarra” (four years). He is teaching music for over twenty years. In Buenos Aires he worked in the “Academia de Música Ricardo Pellican” and in the “Escuela de Música Efimus”
