Bennett Friedman

A native of Berkeley, California, Bennett Friedman is Director of Jazz Studies at SRJC, where he has taught full-time since 1977. Bennett has been a professional woodwind player for many years, performing with artists such as Elvis Presley, Michael Jackson, Frank Sinatra, Natalie Cole, and many others. He has written commissioned works for the University of California Bands, many colleges, and the National Association of Jazz Educators. His arrangements and compositions are published by the University of Northern Colorado Press, and he is the recipient of a grant for jazz composition from the National Endowment for the Arts

Jamey Arent is a guitarist, songwriter, and singer based in Los Angeles, described by Guitar Player Magazine as "a stunning player straddling blues, jazz, and rock." Born in Denver, Jamey picked up the guitar at the of age 12, when he first heard the Beatles. After completing a degree in jazz studies from the Oberlin Conservatory, he moved to Los Angeles to get a master's degree in studio/jazz guitar from USC and begin his career as a gigging musician. The Beat Freaks

The Beat Freaks - a jazz quartet founded in Szczecin by guitarist Michał Starkiewicz in 2014. The musicians have many individual awards and achievements to their credit; they have collaborated and continue to collaborate with the cream of jazz musicians and beyond.
They have two studio albums to their name, "Leon" (2016) (Top Ten 2016 according to PolishJazzBlogspot journalists) and "Stay Calm" (2019). They also recorded music for the film "Zamoyski - Sculptor with a Camera," which was released digitally.
In 2018, the band made it to the top ten of "Electric Jazz Bands" as well as in the category of "New Jazz Band Hope" according to JazzForum readers. The musicians have performed on the most important jazz stages in Poland and abroad.
"The Mechanics of Nature" is the third studio album by The Beat Freaks, on which the musicians invited a special guest - American trumpeter Ralph Alessi.

Buenos Aires, Argentina. He began studying with some of the more important musician from Argentina (Walter Malossetti, Ricardo Pellican, Armando Alonso, Mateo Crespi, Ismael Spitalnik, Juan Carlos Cirigliano and Ian Guest). In Spain, he graduated as Classical Guitar Professor of the “Conservatorio Ángel Árias Maceín”, and then he earned the title of Graduate in Jazz, at the “Conservatorio Superior de Navarra” (four years). Mao Soné is a multi-award-winning trumpeter, a pianist, and a composer based in Tokyo. He recently appears, as in the leading role, on the Kevin Hæfelin's film, TRUMPET, which has received awards from internationally recognized film festivals, including the Best Short Audience Award at the 42nd Max Ophüls Preis, the Best Short Comedy Award and Ambassador Award at Rhode Island International Film Festival, and the Audience Award at Short Shorts Film Festival & Asia. Now, Mao mainly works on his music with his acoustic trio, his electric quartet "Brightness of the Lives", which will release the new CD album in January 2022, Mao received a full scholarship at Berklee College Of Music in 2010

Matthew Whitaker

Born in 2001 in Hackensack, NJ, Matthew Whitaker grew up surrounded by music. His love for playing music first began at the young age of 3 after his grandfather gave him a small Yamaha keyboard.
At 9, Matthew began teaching himself how to play the Hammond B3 organ. Four years later, he became the youngest artist to be endorsed by Hammond in its 80+ year history. He was also named a Yamaha Artist at 15, becoming the youngest musician to join the stellar group of jazz pianists.
Matthew has toured both here in the US and abroad, performing on world-renowned stages, including Lincoln Center for the Performing Arts, the Apollo Theater, Carnegie Hall, and Jazz at Lincoln Center in NYC; SFJAZZ Center in San Francisco; the John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts in Washington, DC; The Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts, Monterey Jazz Festival, Newport Jazz Festival, Playboy Jazz Festival, Telluride Jazz Festival and at international venues in France, Italy, Germany, Indonesia, UK, Australia, Switzerland, Portugal, Japan, Spain, Morocco, and South Korea.

Ben Hedquist is the clinical assistant professor of jazz bass at Arizona State University. He holds a doctorate in double bass performance from ASU where he studied under double bass virtuoso Catalin Rotaru. Hedquist is the education program coordinator at The Nash, Phoenix’s jazz performance and education center. As a double bassist, Hedquist is known for his versatility and feels at home playing classical or jazz music. As a classical musician, he has performed with the West Valley Symphony, Phoenix Opera, and as Principal Bassist for the Musica Nova Orchestra. Hedquist has also performed in chamber concerts with the ASU String Faculty as part of the Stradivarius Concert Series at the Musical Instrument Museum, with violinist Mark Fewer (McGill University) as part of the Lotus Land Project and performs solo recitals throughout the Phoenix Metropolitan area

Bassist Nicholas Krolak is a young veteran of the Philadelphia jazz scene. He has spent the last decade working as a side-man, experiencing new styles, and studying with the masters. Now, he has taken all he has learned and is applying it to his own group. Tracing the lineage of bebop into the contemporary, his compositions celebrate the city and honor nature. He is also the host of the Voice = Power Podcast in which he interviews visionaries of the Jazz world, pursuing the question: How does an artist find their voice?
