Cool Yule
Happy holidays to all! We'll be sending an early newsletter next week, so keep an eye out for it on December 24. The Jazz Near You newsletter will follow on its regularly scheduled Friday. Speaking of the season, we've just added organist Barbara Dennerlein's rendition of "Let It Snow" to our Yule Dig It Spotify playlist. If you're looking to maximize merriment this year, the playlist now offers nearly six hours of tasteful, holiday-ready tunes. And if you dig it, please share it far and wide.
Cool Yule Ornament
I can't quite recall how this old fashioned-style radio ornament came into my life (pictured left), but it's become a favorite. Turn the dial and you hear static untilclickyou land on a station. Over the years, I kept discovering new station identifications and the surprises seemed endless... and then one day I stumbled upon a jazz station. It's great. Give it a listen. For kicks, I asked AI to render the ornament with a jazz theme and it created the version on the right. We should pitch Hallmark on a design upgrade. :-)
Instagrammers and Substackers: Follow or Subscribe
If you're active on Instagram, we'd love for you to follow us at @allaboutjazznearyou. We're posting more frequently, growing our community, and hope you'll join us. And if Substack is more your speed, you can subscribe to us here. We began archiving our weekly newsletters on Substack back in June, so newcomers can easily catch up. While All About Jazz (including Jazz Near You) remains a platform unto itself, we're making a concerted effort to extend our presence across other social spacesand we're glad to have you with us wherever you follow along.
Our Pets
We plan to make this an ongoing thing, so if you share your life with a dog or a cat, please upload their photo to the All About Jazz gallery and make sure to title and tag your photos appropriately. For dogs, include the "jazz dogs" tag so we can feature them together in a dedicated slideshow and group page. Likewise for catsjust add the "jazz cats" tag. Upload and tagging instructions can be found here. Charlie (pictured right) is featured on the cover of guitarist Vic Dillahay's album Music for Chasing Squirrels. You can view a handful of Charlie photos here.
