Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats

Wide-Eyed Lounge Cats ("WELC") are a jazz fusion and jam band bringing elements of both into their unique live performance style, original compositions and unorthodox arrangements. Born out of the basements and dive-bars of Fells Point (Baltimore, MD), the Cats have evolved into an independent recording and live act with a fast growing following in the local mid-Atlantic music scene while also gaining international recognition since their debut studio release in 2020. They have released three studio albums and maintain regular residencies at local jazz and blues venues.

Phil Wilkinson

Born:
Philip Wilkinson was born in 1978 in Nottingham, United Kingdom. He started playing keyboards at age four and, as of 1985, studied organ—his main instrument—or seven years.
He became interested in Jazz in the early nineties, alternating piano and organ, and by the time he was twenty he was teaching piano and improvisation at the Clarendon (Nottingham) University.
Phil later met Darius Brubeck, son of the legendary Dave Brubeck. He studied with Darius for one year, and had the opportunity of playing several two-piano concerts with him.
Between 2012 and 2023, Wilkinson has had the opportunity to work with Jazz legends like Larry Coryell, Alvin Queen, Mark Whitfield, Ulf Wakenius, Phillip Catherine, Peter Bernstein and Jesse Van Ruler.

Metropolitan Jazz Octet

The Metropolitan Jazz Octet (MJO) is the reawakening of a group that started in the 1950’s by Chicago saxophonist and arranger Tom Hilliard.
From 1950 through mid-'80s Hilliard wrote many of the octets compositions. He worked with Chicago’s top arrangers and studio musicians expanding the library to 150-plus charts. In 1959 MJO recorded an album on the Argo label called “The Legend of Bix,” a tribute to 1920's great cornetist and composer Bix Beiderbecke.
As a professor at De Paul University School of Music, Hilliard taught three current members of MJO to whom he bequeathed his complete library, passing the torch to the next generation.

Miguel Tarin Torres

Miguel Tarin Torres is a bassist and composer based in NE Ohio. Born and raised in San Luis Potosi, Mexico in the year 2000, he started studying bass at the age of twelve years old, leading up to eventually teach music in his high school as well as individual lessons out of his home. Miguel developed his primordial musical foundation based on funk music as well as rock and latin rhythms, whilst always loving electronic music of all sorts.
Miguel moved to Ohio in October of 2017 to further pursue his musical education and to hone his chops and compositional skills as well as playing with local musicians and groups such as Free Black!, Matthew Alec and The Soul Electric, Mango Man and The Funketeers, Most Wanted Vibes, among others. His main focus now is trying to connect the dots between all the genres and musical nuances that have influenced him and sew them into one cohesive musical experience that he can call his own.
