Katia Cardenas

Born: March 10, 1988

Born and raised in the Pacific Northwest, Katia grew up in a musical family. Her mother, Janis Kelly, is an accomplished vocalist, who sang with Maurice White and the Emotions, and opened for Rufus & Chaka Khan, Tower of Power and Carole King. Her father, Mark Cardenas, is a professional keyboardist, and a Platinum and Gold recording artist, whose credits include Prince, Morris Day and the Time, Janet Jackson, and The Song Catchers (featuring Charles Neville). From an early age, she was raised on a strict diet of funk, soul, and r&b. She received a Waldorf education, which taught her a deep appreciation for the arts, and a passion for singing

The Aubrey Wilson Quartet

In many ways, Aubrey Wilson was born to be a musician. Growing up, Wilson was immersed in jazz, soul, and show tunes without even knowing it; her father, a singer, was part of a successful barbershop quartet, which toured across Canada and the United States. Being around so much music – and accompanying her vocalist father to many of his shows – Wilson developed a natural affinity for performing. In addition to singing, she danced from a young age, performed with her high school jazz band, and, when deciding on her post-secondary education, elected to attend Mohawk College’s Applied Music program, where she studied with Carol McCartney and Bob Shields

Julian Argüelles

Born: January 28, 1966

Award-winning saxophonist and composer Julian Argüelles plays a unique mix of exciting British contemporary jazz infused with Spanish rhythms, South African grooves, brass band and classical influences. An exceptionally gifted musician, he has been compared to sax legends Wayne Shorter and Charles Lloyd, while his on-stage chemistry with the Julian Argüelles Quartet has been likened to Keith Jarett’s renowned 1970s line-up.

Argüelles’ rapidly growing audience, built over the past 30 years, has an extraordinary reach for a jazz artist. His concerts attract a wide ranging age from early 20s upwards. Always keen to diversify, Argüelles has begun to reach out to jazz and classical music fans across Europe through his work with Laginha Argüelles Norbakken Trio, with superstar Portuguese pianist Mário Laginha and the phenomenal Norwegian percussionist, Helge Andreas Norbakken.

Musica ex Machina

Born: January 1, 2005

Musica ex Machina is a project born in Cagliari (Sardinia, 2005) with the objective of creating an original repertoire, oriented toward improvisation and live performances. To these guidelines, we added the will to produce a type of music that would bring back the spontaneity and folk aspect of jazz, a path we followed to explore different genres of popular world-music. The result was a surprising ever-changing repertoire that immediately found public support. In 2006, we started a collaboration with the American Dance Asylum, a New York State non profit organization that produces the Ichnusa Festival (a bridge of culture and entertainment between New York and Sardinia)

Mike Downes

Born: August 16, 1964

Noted as a profoundly musical bassist with a keen melodic sense, Toronto-based composer, arranger and bassist Mike Downes has released award-winning recordings ranging from solo bass, trio and quartet to large ensemble. His recent projects include the release of his 8th album as a leader "The Way In," a commission to arrange 12 pieces for jazz quartet and and symphony orchestra to commemorate the centenary of the great Oscar Peterson in Osaka, Japan in June 2025, and shows worldwide throughout 2025. International Society of Bassists calls him "As gifted a composer as he is a bassist" and guitar great Pat Metheny calls Downes “one of my favorite bass players.”
