To Be Continued (Carol Liebowitz, Claire de Brunner, Daniel Carter, and Kevin Norton): Poetry from the Future
by Roger Farbey
This leaderless improvising quartet utilises some unusual instruments on their recording. Bassoon is rarely heard outside of classical music and Claire de Brunner is an excellent exponent of the instrument. She studied jazz improvisation with Lee Konitz. She also studied with pianist Connie Crothers as did Carol Liebowitz, whose restrained yet vital contributions are nearly as ...

TD Ottawa Jazz Festival Ottawa, Canada June 23-26, 2017 Amongst the most significant challenges that face any festival is, as the gray and no-hair crowd continues to age, finding ways to cultivate and grow a younger audience. Truth, Liberty & Soul: Live in NYC The Complete 1982 Jazz Alive! Recording
by Mario Calvitti

These days, there's a plethora of recordings, originally made for radio or television broadcast, being released by labels ranging from thoroughly legit to highly suspect. In some instances, these are real archival finds; true gold, mined from hours of hours of recordings, lovingly restored and packaged. In other cases they're clearly nothing but money grabs. Capitalizing ...

Jaco Pastorius: Truth, Liberty & Soul: Live in NYC The Complete 1982 Jazz Alive! Recording
by C. Michael Bailey
Bassist Jaco Pastorius could be considered the American music Van Gogh, a romantic figure so much bigger than the broken body that died from a severe beaten received outside of Midnight Bottle Club in Wilton Manors, Florida, September 11, 1987. That image simply does not jibe even remotely with the music presented on Truth, Liberty & ...
Ralph Towner: un americano a Roma
by Mario Calvitti
