A Herbie Nichols' Centennial - Part I

Read "A Herbie Nichols' Centennial - Part I" reviewed by Ludovico Granvassu

Herbie Nichols was a master of the piano which has inspired generations of musicians after his passing, despite the little commercial success that his albums obtained when first released. 2019 marks the centennial of his birth and to remedy the lack of retrospectives that his work should have, but hasn't received, this year, this ...

Read "Synkka Metsa (Dark Forest)" reviewed by Dan McClenaghan

Collaborating constantly for almost fifty years in myriad outfits and formats, despite many moves in their busy musical careers, they have never recorded as a duo. These two “incurable romantics," as Aaltonen defines it, use this opportunity to record an album ...

Olavi Trio & Friends: Triologia

Read "Triologia" reviewed by Eyal Hareuveni

The most famous Olavi in history of modern Finnish music may be Olavi Virta, the godfather of the Finnish Tango. The Olavi Trio has little in common with the famous Olavi; it just happens that everyone in this trio carries the middle name Olavi--two, as their official names despite being rarely known by it. These three ...
