Orlando Haddad

Orlando brings a wealth of influences not only from his country of Brazil as a guitarist, vocalist, songwriter and arranger, but from his classical background as well. A native of Lavras, in the state of Minas Gerais, Orlando has been a bandleader since the age of 12. As a child growing up in Brazil he studied classical piano and guitar; later he moved to Rio de Janeiro, where he studied at the Villa-Lôbos Institute and pursued private classical guitar studies. In 1974 he came to the US to study music at the University of North Carolina School of the Arts, where he met Patricia, and graduated with a degree in Composition

Jani Moder was born in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia and moved back to Slovenia when he was 3 years old. He started playing classical guitar when he was 8 years old and took lessons for 10 years. He graduated from jazz guitar with honors at Karntner LandesKonservatorium in Klagenfurt, Austria. At audition in Paris he received scholarship for prestigious Berklee College of Music and received scholarship from Slovene ministry of culture. At Berklee he was recipient of Stephen D. Holland Award for outstanding musicianship and graduated with honors in 2 years. He was also chosen among 10 students to sign a contract with Berklee’s Jazz revelation records where he is featured on the Cd called Common Ground

Roger Noyes is a cross-genre guitarist whose playing is rooted primarily in blues-oriented forms. He currently writes and performs with the Arch Stanton Quartet, whose music finds influence in post-bop jazz, but he also performs with groups specializing in other genres, from straight-ahead jazz to barroom/roots rock. His instrumental writing and playing, in particular, are inspired by the likes of Thelonious Monk, Frank Zappa, John Scofield, Nels Cline, Grant Green, Neil Young and Danny Gatton: musicians who are genre-bending, take an "unusual" approach to harmony, and/or have a strong blues-soul sensibility

Jaak Sooäär

Jaak Sooäär (b. 1972) was born in Tallinn, Estonia. In 1994, he graduated from the Music College in Tallinn and, in 2001, from the Rhythmic Music Conservatory in Copenhagen. Since 2001, he has taught guitar at the Jazz Music Department of the Estonian Academy of Music and Theatre and, since 2004, acted as the head of the department. Sooäär’s first concerts (all over the Soviet Union) took place as a member of the Estonian Boys’ Choir in which he started singing at the age of seven. Since 1989, he has been active on the Estonian jazz and pop scene, playing guitar literally with everybody of note. Since the late 1990s, Sooäär has performed with many internationally known jazz musicians, including Ray Anderson, Conny Bauer, Han Bennink, Raoul Björkenheim, Eric Brochard, Gavin Bryars, Kent Carter, Will Calhoun, Pierre Dørge, Anders Jormin, Dave Kikoski, Alexey Kruglov, Joelle Léandre, Dave Liebman, Joe Lovano, Ramon Lopez, Ron McClure, Karlheinz Miklin, Liudas Mockunas, John Schröder, Harri Sjöström and Petras Vyshniauskas, and has been active in several international bands, including The Dynamite Vikings, Erdmann/Sooäär Dessert Time (1st prize at international Peer Gynt Improvisation Contest in Pärnu, Estonia, in 2001), Mockunas-Pasborg Project and Almost Zebra (3rd place at the 5th European Improvisation Tournament in Poitiers, France, in 2001)
